Well, its not for me (I'm only 5'9ish), but I think the person I know would be a bit more into XC type stuff :)

I helped a few kids put a bike together today. We got back from the trails and saw them on the porch unpacking one of these bad boys.

Pretty ridiculous really. It went together well enough for something that is slightly above walmart level at best.
It is fun to ride but it is a bear to control. It is flexy as hell and I could feel every time the person in the back shifted her weight. The back end tends to wander. The only thing it really needs to make it better though is a set of super wide bars the set that came on it are way to narrow.

It has got to weight 85 lbs.

^^ It just needs two Shriners and a bear . . . all wearing fezes .

yellowjeep 05-11-09 05:30 PM

I basically look like a bear esp on that thing.

ca7erham 05-11-09 05:59 PM

Wow, I cant even imagine something at that level.

That being said, this weekend, I passed a quad on an organized roadie ride.

Something a bit slightly related to that: In years past, I always thought all the roadies were super nice on the TOSRV (the organized ride I mentioned earlier), but this year, after spending a season mountain biking and handing out with MTB and some BMX crowd, all the roadies seemed like huge snobs. Just things like not saying hi or warning when passing, and in a few cases, downright reckless passing by impatient riders. Even in mtb RACES, everyone has been so positive and patient with passing. Every time I've ever been passed by people in higher classes (during an MTB race), they've always been so positive and yelled support. I dont know, I guess we're just the luckiest.

Also, after about 8 months off from road riding, I found it really boring and dull. I enjoy chasing birds in parking lots, or playing bike tag (but MTBs are better for that most of the time because you can jump curbs easier), but everything else seems so boring.

Sorry to rant.

I've been lurking the SS/FG forum because I'm researching SS bikes. Those guys are super entertaining.

Dannihilator 05-11-09 07:59 PM

Crud, you guys now know where I've been hiding. :p

Got everything for the new build except the wheels. This takes the waiting game to new heights.

My friend is 6'9" and he rides a xl frame with low rise bmx handlebars.. it looks kinda funny but it works for him :thumb:

ca7erham 05-13-09 02:02 PM

Wow, that would look funny, but what ever works I guess.

Yeah, I bought extra spacers for the bottom of the head tube too! We can make a chopper out of it

craigcraigcraig 05-14-09 06:03 PM

is there a for trade/swap thread on this forum??

ed 05-14-09 06:56 PM

Many have tried...none have succeeded...but MTB'ers are pretty resourceful and keep just about everything so they can use it on some sort of Frankenbuild later.

craigcraigcraig 05-14-09 07:53 PM

so if i wanted to trade a 27.2 carbon fiber aero seatpost for say a 300 mm non aero could i post that here?

ca7erham 05-14-09 07:54 PM

I'm a handle bar, wheelset, set of V brakes, and a chain away from another bike :).

craigcraigcraig 05-14-09 08:05 PM

when i come across enough stuff for another bike i just sell that one. Then make the nice bike even more nice :D

i thought about not posting it. there have been a few people posting threads saying they are coming from road cycling to MTB and figured maybe someone wants a new seatpost for the road bike. just a shot in the dark. I have other things just want to make sure thats ok to post stuff like that in here :D.

ed 05-15-09 02:32 PM

You may get a bite...there have been an awful freakin' gob of posts lately about weight.

craigcraigcraig 05-15-09 02:43 PM

always seems to be easier to lose weight on your body than your bike. and it's cheaper :)

edit: i guess that doesn't necessarily get the desired effect always. and no offense to anyone of course with that.

Throw in a set of dirt drops and they'll be beating a path to your door.

ed 05-15-09 04:23 PM

Touchė, my good man. Well done.

ed 05-16-09 01:06 PM

Hey Dan! Check this crap out:
http://www.bikecult.com/works/collec...daccorditt.jpg

That hurts my wang just looking at it...looks like all my body weight would be leaned over on the nose of the saddle.

That rear wheel looks like a 900c or something.
