I think I've reached my limit with Crank Bros. Yesterday I had a really tough time clipping in and I think i want to try SPDs.

The built in "float" as the cleats wear away like butter, the problem clicking in, etc. Might be my personal experience but I think I'll go SPD. I know gastro and Pete uses SPD so that's enough endorsement for me. I think I'll try to get one of those platform ones. I'll have to dig through the archives to find some references.

That's weird...I would think that as the cleat wears...clipping in would be easier. That is my experience with my Candy's anyhoo.

Are you on beaters?

I have different pairs. Yesterday I was on Candy's.

Hmmm...I'm assuming the sole of your shoe has been trimmed to clear the cage. (had to do that to mine) May or may not need it. FFT

Yeah, I already trimmed my sole. Been using the shoes for a while and for the most part I find I have trouble clipping in a little. Yesterday I had a lot of trouble.

The melting cleats are just a separate thing that's been annoying me.

ed 11-08-09 04:22 PM

Hmmm...well, Shimano branded SPD's have always worked well for me. I had a small float issue thus the switch to CB's. Still have my 505's though. They're on the Crapper. For the $5 I've got wrapped up in them...they're killer.

I've been super casually looking for a new fork, nothing wrong with the old one, but I just think I'd like something with a bit more travel, and probably a TA. I'll call Sette to see what the max that I can go to is on tuesday, but does anyone have any recommendations in the 140-160mm range? I'd like something adjustable (and sub 500), so the obvious choice is something from RS like a Revelation or maybe a Domain (?). This would probably be 3 or 4 months down the road if I can find a job.

2007 Marz Z1 B (no experience...it's just my Unicorn)

I loved that Domain I had...heavy beast though. I'll let you know what I think of this PIKE. 140mm

There's also the Fox Talas 150mm QR15 option.

How 'bout a used Fox 36 Van R?

I was actually thinking of getting one of the U-turn coil Lyrics. Those are new on ebay for around 590 or so, a bit high, but with in reason. I dont even know if I can run anything with that kind of travel on the frame, but you never know.

Oooooo very kewl! I'd love to be ballin' a Lyrik, man. Pricey.

Woo, getting my first taste of activism today. Giving a speech at the local park district meeting against a parkinglot that would destroy open space.

never 11-09-09 05:09 PM

Maybe he means Bullit?

Well I thought I had everything planned. I went to Austin last week and had a few good rides looked at a few places and looked into a few schools to go back for ANOTHER degree....you would think youd figure out what to do after 2 right? Well my bro in law called and said he got offered a national buyer spot with the company him and I work for which would move him, my sis, and 2yr old nephew who I spend a ton of time with to Seattle. They would be leaving family for the first time and asked me to join if he takes the job. I would be able to transfer with the company and I have always wanted to live in the Pacific Northwest because I hate the heat and I love rainy weather. Now the choice is to call off all the research I did for Austin TX and start looking into Seattle WA.

craigcraigcraig 11-09-09 06:25 PM

only time i ever went to seattle is was sunny and 75 degrees.

You went on one of the 10 days it was sunny all year huh? I hate the heat here in TX Ive put up with it all my life and love rainy dreary weather. Unfortunately here the rainy dreary weather means closed trails for weeks because we have clay!

craigcraigcraig 11-09-09 06:53 PM

i believe it was May 29, 2007. I was on my way to Hawai'i and was so excited to stop in seattle and it be raining but no ruined my 7 hour lay over.

dminor 11-09-09 06:56 PM

^^ I read about that. Seattlites by the score admitted to Harbor View for temporary blindness from "strange alien orb in the sky."

craigcraigcraig 11-09-09 06:58 PM
