General noobie question
Hi all!
So I'm not really sure where to post my noob question so I thought the general mountain bike thread would be a good place to start :) I did some riding 2 years ago for 2 years but now I'm looking to start again and perhaps take it more serious. When I was riding I was using a 1999 Giant Iguana SE and I still have it; that thing was a beast for me. The only problem that I ever had was that it wouldn't drop to the heaviest gear but took it to the bike shop and got it fixed. The frame never got bent or anything even though it went through a decent amout of trails. So here's my question... As you can tell, I'm attached to this bike and I would want to keep using it, so would it be a waste of money if I bought new components for it? Not just new brakes, this and that, like really modify it or would it be waste of components for such a frame and therefore use the money for a different bike? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks :) |
Don't waste any money on upgrading the old bike. Keep it as a beater and buy a new one. You'll get a new modern bike with disc brakes, 9spd drivetrain, etc... and you'll be happier on the trails on a brand new bike.
|
Thanks souljah! I'll keep that in mind :)
|
Yeah man, you definitely can get a really nice entry level bike with pretty beefy stuff for a bit more then what you would pay to upgrade the LIZARD. The Hardrock Disk is only 499 at most LBS's.

do you have these? http://cgi.ebay.com/Disc-Rotor-180mm...item3cafc97e02 if you don't you should. |
^^ Too small. Yow! too 'spensive too. They are cool looking. Hope they got permission to reproduce Yeti's logo for a commercial purposes.

This is a custom 29er built by the LBS True Fabrications for the 24hr Red Bull DH event couple weekends ago. Saw it at the Texas Custom Bike show last weekend. Still has New Mexico dirt on it. |

ya, if only the market for this type of fork would grow just a bit more they would make one with more clearance.
