Help needed with new Trek purchase!!!

Hey guys,

Earlier I posted saying that I was looking at the Trek 6000 as my next MTB. Since then I have been thinking about a lot and have found that buying the 6000 would just be too much for my pocket right now. As a possible replacement I was looking at the Trek 4500 especially since they share the same frame and suspension. What I am thinking is I could always get the 4500 so I can get out on the trails and as money becomes available and as I see fit, I can always upgrade parts to my liking. I really just want to post this to see what you guys think of my idea and if you have any suggestions they would be more than appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Bikes: Bike Count: Rising.

They are not the same frame, the 6000 shares the same frame as the 6500 and 6700. The 4500 is the same frame as the 4300.

The 6 series' top tube is gusseted at the seat tube.

Oh...I thought becuase they both are listed as Alpha Black Aluminum frames on Trek's website that they were the same frame.

ok apparently the suspension on the 4500 is also a Dart 2 not Dart 3. Even with these slight differences, will it be much of a difference?

The 6000 has hydroformed tubes, and disc brakes. Also, bike prices are going up SOON.

Yeah BIG time, I'm dreading having to redo some parts of the FAQ because of it.

Why are bike prices going up soon? Is it because of increased demand because of the price of oil? because they're more expensive to manufacture because of the price of oil?

Declining dollar is the major factor. Next, cost of transport from Taiwan/Japan/China

why is that? just change some numbers, or will you rewrite it based on the financial feasibility of some of the items/upgrades?
