[COLOR=DarkSlateGray]Another pedal seeker.....

Need new pedals. Must fit MTB shoe. SPD drilled holes. Looking for at least 5 degrees of float. Going on a road bike.

I used my Time A.T.A.C.'s on my road bike for a couple years until I broke down and spent some SERIOUS cha ching on road shoes and Speedplay X/2 pedals.

The Crankbrother pedal family is great. The eggbeater is unmatched in poor ridding conditions, easy clipin and super strong. The Candy is the same design with a larger platform. It is however slightly harder to clip into than the eggbeater.

would you recommend eggbeaters for someone relatively new to clipless pedals? I have ridden with speedplay frog's twice and shimano SPD's once. My main concern is the eas of entering/exiting the pedals. Mud shedding isn't really a problem since where I ride it isn't that muddy, just dusty.

Regardless of what pedal system you use, there will be a learing curve. The benefit of SPD is that you can adjust the spring tension and make it harder or easier to clip in/out. The drawback is the limited degree of float and the performance in muddy conditions (not an issue for you).

The benefits of Cook bros. is easy of clipping in. With a 4 sided entry, you just put your foot on the pedal keep pedaling and you'll click in. Plus, there is much higher degree of float. Drawback is there is no way to adjust the spring tension. It is what it is!

I know a lot of guys who ride mountain and road and have eggbeaters on both bikes. The eggs are low profile, low weight and look cool to boot! The ONLY negative I've heard is if you have an inexpensive sole on your shoes, you can get "hot spots" on the ball of your foot because the contact area is small. If you have a stiff sole, this isn't a problem.

Ooops forgot to answer you ?. Yes, I would recommend eggs to a newbie. I think the learning curve is smaller and the performance is higher! (NOT a big fan of SPD's)
