Aerobars

Does anybody make a set of aerobars to attach to mountain bike style bars? I'd like to be able to get into some kind of crouch on my Specialized Crosstrail, when I want to go faster, and when I just want another position. I already have bar ends, just looking for more positions.

Most bolt-on aero bars will work [i.e Profile, etc.], assuming there's enough room on either side of your stem. Please post pics once you're done. Please.

It can be done, but sounds like it might be a bad idea...

I'm curious! Why would it be a bad idea?

I'm coming off a road bike to a Specialized Crosstrail, and miss being able to lean over comfortably. Sitting up is nice too, but so is being able to get lower comfortably. I currently have Ergo grips, and they sure give me a nice spot to put my arms/elbows, but there's nothing to hang onto!

I'd like to try it with the OEM bars, rather than switch to drops.

I can't imagine ever wanting to use aerobars on a trail. On the road I would understand.

You haven't really mentioned what type of riding you are doing: are you using the crosstrail on trails or the road? Aeros on a trail would be ... interesting

I should have been more specific. I ride 30+ miles every morning, maybe afternoon or evening, if it's cool out. Several of the bumpy areas are rough enuf, that the road bike was killing me. The Crosstrail sure does ride nice, and even likes to go fast. Darned thing will ride itself right up a wall, if I can hang on. Almost all of my riding is done on paved bike trails, and roads. Occasionally on some hard packed ag-lime.

I was wondering if anyone made mountain bike tires that would go on a road bike.
