Ok I got my last bike stolen (Brodie Infinity 2003) which really sucks but gives me a great excuse now to get into the mentioned style of riding, I've been getting good deals for the Brodie Holeshot 2004 I could get it for about $2000cnd, but here's the problem I'm really not familiar with that type of riding and frame sizing, I'm 6'1-2 175lbs, the current frame on the bike is an 18 inches the next up is 19 1/2 inch.

which one would you recommend for that style of riding and why ?

what REAL difference is there between the two size, cause I'm sure it ain't all about the comfort as on roadies bikes.

Basically it's the length of the top tube. Especially on a DJ frame, the seat tube heigt is insignificant. This is why many DJ frames are S, M, L.

Usually the difference is about 1" in top tube length.

A lot of riders who jump have come up through the BMX ranks and are usually used to smaller frames. Plus, a shorter/smaller frame is easier to flick around in the air. Still, if you're 6'1", I'd opt for the longest frame available!

frame size been really confusing especially since I think that the store people have been trying to sell me the bike they want to sell instead of the one that'd be good for me.

some people say the 18" would be good for my size, if you go on the brodie website there's no good charts only the sizes with a little matchstick caracter drawn, but they have frames in 18" - 19" - 20.5"

I think the 20.5" would be more designed for the clydesdale ?? category.

I guess I'll have to check various stores if they have a build-up bike on the 19" frame and compare it to the 18".

I have tested the holeshot, and for djing I would ride the 18...oh and I am 6'5...Keep in mind you weight isn't in the clydedale class, you are much closer to a standard size rider in weight. 6'1 is tall but just about any bike will be able to handle you. For djing you want a small fitting frame that you can whip around (when you get to that point)...

Also a couple of other bikes to try for comparrison, specialized p-series. The large has a nice long tt to play with and is short enough to have a lot of fun on. Also take a look at the supercross series from Norco, very strong and build to take a lot of abuse.

The differences in sizes is tt for the most part. The rest of the bike doesn't change much. 18" is actually a little longer than I am even looking at but only by .25 of an inch. Great bike, strong and fun the ride. (I might even consider something smaller at your height but I assume you want the bike to also ride trails where you may need to sit)...

Maelstrom, thanks that's exactly what I was looking for, another tall (much taller) rider that could give an opinion, most of the guys in stores that I've met are not even 5'10.... and from a roadie perspective an inch can means a whole world of difference.

I want to buy from a Canadian company so that's why I'm going for the Brodie, I almost decided to buy a Banshee Morphine frame but that would be just overkill for me or so I've been told..... and anyway if I get the morphine I'll just get the frame for now :/

You're right I'll be wanting to ride the bike on trails too, and some very minimal commuting (5-10 minutes ride).

The holeshot is great. If you were looking for a bombproof frame like the Morphine I would look at .243...much cheaper ...When my cousin was shopping that was one of the bikes to consider. However the p-series ended up fitting him much better

The Narc

Another suggestion from another tallish rider would be to take a look a the Devinci Hucker. I'm 6'3, 230 lb and got ahold of a medium frame and find that it fits like a glove. I usually swap between a short dh stem and a longer xc stem depending on the day's task, but either way I find it very comfortable. Plus it's very beefy and a Canadian company.

collin - look at the Cove's, they are made in Canada and I have one that's extremely stout. I have the Stiffee FR (17" I think, whatever the med is), it's a great frame. I am 5' 8" and it fits fine, if I were your height I think I would go with the next bigger size. My BMX'er son even rides it in XC races.

The reason Im looking at the brodie holeshot is because I can get a really good price for a brand new one, 2000$cnd instead of the MSRP of 2300$cnd + taxes,
and I'm only moving to Quebec next week (from Victoria BC) so I want to buy one here before I get there and pay a few hundred extra just for shipping.

The morphine is definitely a wicked frame I've seen it and wow, but its a heavy one too well at least compared to the holeshot, but I know that the holeshot is a great performer after all it's the highest quality hardtail bike from Brodie.

One thing I have to make sure about the one I want is that it comes with the Shimano Saint derailers.

Leaving the trials / dj capital of canada for the French east...surprised you aren't getting into DH. Either way you can't go wrong with any of the bikes. I personally avoid the saint stuff (I can't stand the flippy shifters or the der) but the crank arms are killer.

And yeah the morphine isn't exactly a light bike, but nothing pip makes is, not even his trail bikes haha. They are built for abuse

Maelstrom, yeah it's nice here but I hate the city (victoria) itself, +everything is WAYY too expensive, I'm going back to school and I have the opportunity to be paying about 2000$ per semester instead of 4000+ $ and a 4 bedroom apartment for 600$.

back about the bike, I went to my regular shop and I'll buy from them finally 2300$ after tax and I'm getting the 18" already feels a little taller than I expected. And the Saint grouping comes only on the B-team which is $1200 more (and a manitou fork), anyway I'm already doing overkill by getting the Holeshot.

I will for sure, one thing too I know that bike will make a few head turns, Quebec isn't exactly BC when it comes to MTB, we do have so really nice place though Mt Ste Anne for one. But most people are still impressed over 1000$ + bikes, where as here in BC that must be the average price for someone who rides regularly/seriously
