Trails in SE Alabama?

Posted this in the General Discussion section w/o much response! I'm heading to the Ft. Rucker area this coming weekend to visit a friend and I am debating on taking the bikes. Are there some decent trails in and around that area? Trails.com doesn't have any listed, and MTBR's closest one is near Troy State. I know that there MUST be something near the University that is decent. Any help is appreciated.

Yeah Troy state dothan are the closest trails. Nothing special somewhat flat with a few small hills,a few log piles and switchbacks. It's 5 miles long just ride it both ways and there is 2.5 miles of jeep trails. It's just north of dothan a couple miles. Also if at Ft rucker they have a lot of trails to ride. I've never even ridden them though. From what i hear they have horse trails and you can ride miles and miles of tank trails.Other than that we have to get out of town to montgomery pr down to tallahassee or ebro(pinelog) Fl.Everything is about 1-1/2 hours.

Hey RedFox, thanks a ton!

My buddy is at Ft. Rucker and he's been riding some of the jogging trails and found a good little loop. We'll probably try that. If we have the time we'll check out the trails at Troy.

Don't see any point going down to Tallahassee, I'm coming from FL and have been there-done that! I would like to add however that the Redbug Trail and Tom Brown Park there are worth the trip if you've never been!

Thanks Again!

YEah we love Tom brown park. The main trail (Magnolia?) is great a little confusing at first though.I really love cadillac trail at tom brown. We just hit redbug in dec.Liked it a lot, especially the whoopdedoos.Although it's a little short. anyway try Troy at dothan if you get a chance. It's a good ride especially at speed. Have fun!

A couple more ?'s. I've got two bikes and I'm trying to decide which one to bring. I've got a Cannondale F2000SX, good XC and all around bike, and a Specialized P.3, super beefy trash and bash bike.

My first choice is the P.3 because I love riding this thing! It'll handle anything and everything. Problem is that it's a heavy pig and long XC rides wear me out fast! My buddy (who I'll be riding with) is a relative Novice, and I should be able to keep up with him, but if the trails are long streches of straight riding I'll get clobbered.

The Cannondale is light and fast, I just ride it in a more controlled and "Not all out" fashion. It's set up with the Lefty, and riser bars, so it's more trailbike rather than XC racer, but still much more delicate than the P.3.

Granted, I have a blast on either bike, but would rather ride the P.3 over more obstacles and off drops...etc.

What bike would be suited for the trails at Ft. Rucker and at Troy. My buddy is military, so getting on base (and trails there) are supposedly not an issue. A trip to Troy is very likely and very high on the priority list.

One more thing. Are you or will you be in the area? Perhaps we could hook up and get the locals tour of the trails and ? Let me know!

Thanks Again!

When are you going to be here. Unfortuneately i have to work weekends. AS far as bikes either will be fine. The ft rucker trails are, from what i understand basic running, horse and tank trails. But i have not ridden them yet.Troy has no dropoffs and no major obstacle.Just a few log piles and a couple small logs. It doesn't have many straightaways.Mostly curvy and switchback type riding. They had a race here last year and i got to see how technical the trail can be watching those guys fly through the trail wide open.I also saw how bad outta shape i am watching them.I'm pretty slow! Anyway let me know when you'll be around. I'm off thursdays and fridays.Sometimes i can get away sat mornings,

Leaving here tomarrow afternoon, we'll be getting in Late and won't probably be riding until later in the afternoon on Saturday. Looks like we'll miss each other, unless we go for a ride Monday morning which is a definate possibility.

PM me a phone number where I can contact you when I get in town. Right now, I don't know the number where I'll be staying, but if I find out, I'll let you know!

Thanks Again!
