Cheap, Light or Strong

Just curious where you stand. How do you judge your parts, what makes VALUE to you.

Cheap Strong for me. Lightweight just doesn't make sense to me. I would rather have durable parts over light ones.

BTW for anyone who is curious this is based on the adage

Cheap,Light or Strong pick 2. While this isn't true 100% of the time this does work quite often in mtb industry.

I voted Cheap and Light, mostly because I get an employee discount and can buy the "Better" stuff for little money.

My preference is Strong and Quality! Precision is more important than weight. When I shift I want it to be smooth and precise!

BTW, we have a similar pyramid in the construction industry for projects: Time Schedule, Quality and Cost, pick two! If you want it fast, it's going to cost you or be inferior quality..etc.

I find it relative in everything. Too bad there isn't a way to make all 3 possible. (obviously ep's and other hookups shouldn't count)...

I'm with a2psyklnut on this one. I voted "other" though because I want "strong and quality".

I voted other since I like quality. If I have to pay a bit more to get a better quality product then so be it.

I am quite happy with the new rims on the market as they are quite strong. I run a 36 hole ryno lite XL and they have lasted quite a while. I also run a mavic 321D which was brutally strong. Wheels are one spot I put a lot of money of money into due to my ryno size

Light and strong-oh and for a good price..Damn.

Strength over lightness (may be light,broken-its garbage).

Mavic and Sun rims are my favourites so far. I've been really quite happy with mine. Sun doesn't seem to be that expensive either.

Thats why I like Sun...they last like 6 month (if not longer in the case of my 36 hole) and cost 25$...seems reasonable to me.

I more or less go about it this way too. The strongest and lightest that I can realistically afford.....

I had to go with other. I just use strong parts. Since I get great deals price is not to much of a concern. I will be going with Strong and light when I build my XC rig.

it would defenetly be cheap and strong. I mean, come on! If it's strong, it will last a long time. and if it's cheap, it leaves you with money, so you can buy more cheap and strong parts!!

Depends on the parts really.
Which part.
light water bottle cages break.
light weight rims, well they tweek...
It depends on your riding style really.
I've got 5 mouths to feed plus mine, so XC weight stuff works well for me.
mind you if that XT rear der snaps, I know that something deore-ish is gonna show up tout suite!

I agree with Scooby...it really depends on the parts.

In general, I go for strength, then weight, then price (but all three are almost equally important...I'm not rich and I don't want unproven, snazzy components).

Just out of curiousity...how do you guys ride? I think that the type of riding has a lot to do with our priorities...I only do XC, by the way.
