Nice build! Have you put it on the scale yet? My reason for asking is my N+1 will be a fat bike and I would like to keep it below 28lbs.

Would suggest putting helium in the tires. Hydrogen if you want to go even lighter, and you like to live dangerously. :p

stevemtbr - It is exactly 28 pounds as pictured. I was going for the most capable and versatile Fattie I could build and still keep the weight light. I could be sub 25 pounds with a rigid carbon fork and seatpost, but having a Bluto and Reverb Stealth is worth the extra weight.

Here are the details if you're interested:
Borealis Echo frame (medium), Sarma Naran 100mm carbon rims, Hope Fatsno hubs (150mm x 15mm front, 197mm x 12mm Maxle rear), DT Swiss spokes and nipples, Specialized Ground Control 26 x 4.6 (tubeless) tires, Orange Seal tire sealant, Easton EC70 carbon riser bar, RaceFace Turbine stem, ODI grips, SRAM XO1 1x11 drivetrain with Gripshift, RaceFace Next SL Cinch 170mm carbon crank, 28t RaceFace chainring, RockShox Bluto 100mm fork with lockout, RockShox Reverb seatpost, SRAM Guide brakes, Specialized Phenom Expert saddle.

Brought my dad's Klein Pulse Comp (Blue) home last weekend to join my 96 Klein Pulse II (Yeti colors). Both are great riding bikes - took the Pulse Comp to 5700 ft elevation this past week. It's equipped with full XT components (8 spd) and the Pulse II is Deore LX and also 8 spd.

Serviced the fork on my SS, and now it feels so much better! It was going "clunk" on every bump, now it's buttery smooth!

I also gave up on the cable discs and put the V-brakes back on, and I honestly reckon the stopping power is about the same, if not slightly better.

Put disc brakes and a Fox fork on it. Hadn't been ridden for a while until this weekend (did about 40 miles on it this weekend) and it was a blast.

redtires 10-05-14 06:08 PM

I just picked this up on CL for $200. Had to put a new cockpit on it. Those parts at the community bike shop was $33. So....yeah, FSR for $233. :) Pretty stoked as I haven't had a mountain bike in about a year. It's nice to do something a little different after thousands of road miles this summer. Put some crank bros candy's on there (the platforms were on there when I got it) and am planning a few more upgrades at the soon upcoming VeloSwap in Denver. First goal is discs/wheels and getting the gearing to a 1X at least.

Nice FSR! I have the white color version. Like riding it very much. Mine does not have a disc brake tab so I have to use an adapter.

redtires 10-10-14 05:35 AM

Thanks all, I've enjoyed the first few rides on the FSR! I haven't even ridden a full suspension since the....early 90's maybe?! It's certainly different than a hardtail. I'm really looking forward to playing with it more, doing more upgrades :D etc....

Zephyr11 10-10-14 08:32 AM

Early 90s full-suspension, eh? I wasn't on anything better than a hand-me-down Huffy at that point, but from what I understand, suspension designs have come a looong way since then. Yeah, of course there's been improvement since '02 too, but you can't beat an FSR for $233. The jump from early 90s to '02 should be significant. Enjoy the ride, bro!

She may be entry level, the front suspension sucks, but I love everything else about her. It was all I could afford at the time and I am very new to mtn biking. Still gaining confidence in technical areas. We don't have anything too crazy around us in terms of real mountains, but we have some great riding trails.

I definitely have been! I did figure out through some research that I was running at about 60% of the needed pressure in the rear shock. Trails are wet and muddy from a lot of rain yesterday, so hopefully by tomorrow I'll be able to hit it again with the correct set up. I thought I just needed to get used to the "excessive bouncing" during the pedal stroke. I never bottomed it out, not really even close thankfully. Should definitely improve the climbing feel.

trail_monkey 10-12-14 10:13 AM

I figure after 100+ pages this POS of mine is not going to turn any heads but if I don't post a pic I will feel like an outsider on this forum so here goes.......

Jamis Trail x650. Upgrades in order of purchase, Wellgo spiked platforum pedals, Converted to single speed with Surly rear cog (20t) and spacer set and Surly tensioner, Race Face 90 mm Evolve stem, SS brake levers (forgot which brand) Titec El Norte bars, Cannondale grips, Race Face Ride cranks, FSA single speed chainring (34t). Waiting on a Rennen Rollenlager tensioner to arrive to replace the surly. I would like to upgrade the fork at some point but cannot decide on which one.

Sorry for the edit on the pic. I am learning how to do things on this site still.

To be perfectly honesty.... was not a real fan of trail riding... UNTIL NOW!!! The Farley had opened a whole new avenue of cycling to me! I can't wait to get back in the woods again! ;)

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=412155This is my Trek 820 bought last year.

I'm still learning about bikes, but from almost daily riding, I've learned that for city streets, this bike is just about perfect. Rugged, and durable. I don't need speed, and I rarely go off road with this bike.

I'm still thinking about changing the stock tires for street tires, but these Bontrager LT-3s at 60psi give a pretty smooth ride on pavement.

I'm also starting to look at other Mountain bikes with 29" tires, but if I'm not going for speed, what would be the point?

29er main purpose is to roll over obstacles easier.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw that bike. I even Googled the frame and Planet X sells a "rolling chassis" with that frame that includes wheels, tires & fork package for $725. Should have kept my old Fuji 26 with SRAM x9 and just transferred the components on to that. D'oh!

KHS XC 104 2010-11

Full Suspension w/ air hydraulic Rock Shox

Just picked up from CL for $250 :)

I'm not sure if thats a good deal or not. It's a medium size in excellent / like new condition. Feels a little heavy for a aluminum alloy frame. The tires are still new. Only a minor scratch.
