This is the second time I've seen those bulge-y things on the inner wheels (seen here as a goldish color). What are those?

The rims are cutout to save weight.
What you are seeing is a rim strip that is being slightly pressed out by the air in the tube.

Well, figure I should post here. Trek X-Caliber 4 on my ride yesterday. Can't figure out why I can't link to the image (says it's too big...I'll figure it out, though).

Edit Fixed.

Just bought it ... 2009 Cannondale Rize 4, Fox Float suspension, Truvative bars, FSA seatpost, 9-Industries wheels, XT and SLR mechs, SLR shifters, Frog Speedplay eggbeaters, minor upgrades elsewhere ....

I couldn’t help myself, I fell in love with the bike from pics on the Internet. I got it for a decent price, but both buyer and I left happy, so I probably paid a little too much ... but I ended up paying exactly what I thought it was worth.

Cannot wait to get back out on the trails and fall over trying to learn to ride obstacles again!

Oh ... and 26" wheels. But at least they should last a long time. Maybe I need to stock up on tires?

ColinL 01-27-16 10:46 AM

Currently there is no issue with mainstream 26" tire availability online. Regardless of your discipline and riding conditions, you should be able to find a suitable tire. You may not find them in local bike shops but you can certainly find and purchase them online.

However, there are an ever-growing number of new tires that are not being produced in 26". Some day you might not have the tire you want. Still isn't a big deal compared to riding 650B anytime before 2014, or 29ers before ~2010. There are plenty of 26" tires.

That Cannondale should serve you well for years to come. The Industry 9 wheels are a great upgrade -I have some and the nearly instant engagement of he freehub is awesome.
You will need a shock pump to adjust the suspension. If you don't have one already you should buy one.

First ride after getting it from a buddy. Made some changes, and it is now more of an urban assault bike than a true mountain bike. Gearing swap, bar swap, and wheel swap.

I forgot to take my phone out of my pocket before my ride, so now you get to see a picture!

2013 Trek Stache 8. Bought used last July. Huge improvement from the 'ol Giant Rincon. I like the SRAM drivetrain a lot. Avid Elixirs leave a bit to be desired (but honestly it may be my neglect to reposition the levers properly). Fox Float 32 is nice. 29er didn't blow my mind like people said, but a noticeable difference. Fatter tire and tubeless? Very noticeable difference. Right about 26 pounds on the scale. RaceFace N/W was a great upgrade. Went from dropping chains 2-5 times per ride to not dropping one since the change (a couple dozen rides).

This particular ride wound up with a bruise in an... undesirable place, so a dropper post was ordered last night.

I've had a lot of fun on it.

Edit: I do not know how to make it a non baby picture.

It's just the forum creating a thumbnail. If you click the baby picture it opens the full image. :)

They're making me look bad...

Mumonkan 03-01-16 12:18 PM

There is some kind of mountain biking where the rider doesn't crash? Really?

Reminds me, my wife wants me to wear a GoPro, just so that she can see me run into a tree some day, given up here in the woods we have not figured out the crash free riding...
