OMG why?
Forget the y26 but why not ANY of the mongoose wing bikes? Hey not every one of us has $1000 bucks or more for a mtn bike. I just want a decent....not outstanding but a decent entry level dual suspension. The mongoose wing elite for instance. Whats so bad about it? I'm not planning to beat the bike to death with a 1000 foot vertical drop off of some rocky cliff. Just a walking trail maybe. |

I have two $1,000+ bikes.
|
Bah! I say. I got a bad back and would still appreciate a dual suspension bike even if it cuts into the efficiency of the other components.
Besides I thought this was a "around $500" thread. :( And when I said walking trail I was just making an example. |
Fine. What would you suggest then?
edit: I am seriously considering a mongoose wing elite for around $350.00. For a beginner who doesn't know the difference with how the 2000 dollar component bikes ride.....would I end up killing myself by buying this bike or what? |

Ya I've seen those and have been looking into them.
But I'm not ready for retirement cause those things looks like they were ment for old people or 40 somethin year olds. I'm 34 and don't consider myself old. I'm not some 16 year old who thinks their immortal either but I want something a bit more aggressive even though it doesn't seem to make total sense logically. Ya know what I mean? :| |
Argh I give up!! Someone find me a deal on a good hardtail then. :( *sobs*
I am sobbing for real. Ok I will be humble and submit to your better knowlege and experience people. Can someone give me an up to the minute assessment on whats a good hardtail for less than $500? And also include details about the components. |
Hey can somebody give me an opinion on these bikes at the following link? .........
http://www.bikewind.com/index.html They seem to be $1000.00 mtn bikes nearly half off. Opinions? |
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...light=bikewind
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...light=bikewind check these out, they are in order. I'd say most people don't like them here. |
Well the name stalker suits.
|
In case this is remotely real. Looks at soul cycles. Better quality frames than that garbage and better warranty/pricing everything.
|
Argh! I guess I won't be touching bikewind bikes then. HUH? whatcha mean "stalker" suits? Its just my pc game nickname. It doesn't make sense to come up with a nickname for every forum out there so I just use the same one.
Tell me more about soul cycles? Got a link? |
How about a giant warp. They are dual suspension and I think they are in the $500-ish price range.
|
I think I found soul cycles is this the correct link?
http://www.ridesoul.com/ If thats the correct site it seems that all they seem to sell is the frames? Was hoping for a total bike. And yeah what about the giant ds warp 2 bike. I think that is around $500.00. And if that one is good or at least decent maybe I can find it discounted somewhere out there for around $350.00? Or am I still dreaming. :( |

How many times do I have to say it? The Warp series is a freaking boat anchor with a spring. You'll end up saying "Hi Bob" more times than on an episode of "Newhart" because you'll be bobbing up and down like you're on a pogo stick looking like some stupid ball game giveaway. http://home.comcast.net/~lawyerjon1/www12RIPKEN.jpg Dual suspension bikes that work PROPERLY start at a Grand. Occasionally you'll find something like last year's base model Specialized FSR XC that will slot in at $880 MSRP but those are RARE. Any FS bike you'll find in the $300-$500 ballpark isn't worth it at all.

Ya know what I mean? :| Guess what I just described: a comfort bike. Get over the image thing. It's a bike that is designed to get you out riding comfortably. The only thing that keeps you looking at a mountain bike is your fractured ego. Suck it up and go look at the Giant Sedona's. |
Forget about the back it will be fine.
What I'm looking for IS a thousand dollar bike but discounted. I'm looking for a 2004 model or more likely a 2003 model. Yes they are rare but I'm still looking. Has this thread reviewed the GT I-Drive 03 models? |

Ummm.....what do you think of the trek 3900 ?? Look, I don't have much money throw me a bone here.
|
Heres another....the GT I-Drive 3.0
|
So I went to my local bike shop to check out the HARDTAILS. They got the specialized hardrock for only $329.00. And they also got a trek 3900 for only $309.00.
Which should I get? They also have a trek 4300 for $339.00 Of the three which would you get? While the trek models have many sizes to try to fit me the specialized only has s,m,l. But the specialized frames are way cooler imo. Which would you get from the selection? |

I'm really fallin in love with the beefy specialized frame even though it has less frame sizes to choose from. I sat on the "medium" and it seems all right to me. Although I haven't test ridden it yet. I just went into the store to see whats there and to make up my mind. I'm gonna make the purchase tommorow. Again, I'm leaning toward the hardrock cause of the frame and the $339.00 of the trek 4300 will add up to like $370.00 which is kinda rich for my blood.
And also both the trek and specialized models at the shop gonna be v brakes not disc brakes most likely and the forks seem the same RST I think. So not much difference there. They do have a hardrock with disc brakes but thats like $439.00 and I don't think as a beginner I will know the difference. The specialized hardrock for $329.00 plus tax will be bout $350.00. The bike shop guy seems cool and offering lots of help in terms of info. Plus they gonna switch out the tires for something more dual purpose for road and dirt. What can you suggest in terms of tires? Any brands or types? And should I keep the forks or should I ask for a change out of the shocks for something similar in price but better. Thanks for the help. |
