Poll: Saddle tilt

I've been seeing a few saddles tilted in ways that look uncomfortable to me lately. Too far forward makes me feel like I'm sliding forward when my hands are off the bars and puts more pressure on my palm/wrist/ulnar nerve. Too far rearward and I feel like a HotDog-on-a-stick, so to speak.

Obviously riding style is going to play a part in this, but on your "pedaly" bike...how is your saddle tilted?

Show a pic if ya got it.

The trail I ride the most has a lot of flat sections, so my saddle is high and level for pedaling efficiency, although not high enough to be in my way when the gnar comes.

ya shape of the saddle makes it look a little off but where i sit is pretty darn close.

Like perhaps a lot of folks, I adjust/ride/adjust/ride incrementally until it feels 'right'.

The nose on the saddle ends up tilting slightly up. I sometimes experiment/fine tune a bit, but this is the usual position for me.

Terry Ti Fly, BTW, on all my bikes.

I've been riding with mine the way it came from the LBS (see below) and have disliked the tilt forward (finding myself manually pushing myself back on the seat). I am going to tilt it back a pinch prior to this weekends rides and report back.

depends on the saddle. generally i'm somewhere between level and slightly tilted back.

Other than level, I don't know which of the other choices refer to nose pointed down vs up. I prefer mine pointed slightly up otherwise I feel like I'll fall forward.

I'll cast my vote later once I know which one is which.

i think nad jabber would be pointed up since nads are more forward than a butt

That's why I put Nad-jabber / butt kicker / and level betty. 3 "different choices". Glad you could figure it out. I thought it was self explan.

Case in point...looks like a tall dude who leans over further. If the saddle were level with a "leaning over" type of rider...'twould prob. feel like a NadJabber. Sitting up high and reaching down would necessitate a saddle tilt.

I like this experiment.

#4, if the saddle were too far back and you were too far forward, the saddle (nose) could be a butt-borer.

kenhill3 10-23-09 04:22 PM

Nad-jabbers?

I'd like to see the difference, if any, in how the gals set up their saddles.

female nads are ovaries. i'm pretty sure there are currently no seatposts availiable that would effect that.

I believe this thread is about saddle tilt, not seatposts. :)

we should have more poll threads, i like feeling like i actually contributed to a thread instead of just my usual sarcastic comments.

Yeah, quelling your sarcasm would benefit BF greatly! :thumb:

Your contributions are appreciated. More root beer!

Level, unless your a bmxer that has the nose pointed up your azz.

I need some updated pics, much bling has been added to both bikes.

Well I just adjusted my seat so the front is tilted up the smallest amount. In just sitting on it and riding for two mins it feels much better.

It actually is way more comfortable allowing me to put my weight further back on the fatter part of the seat instead of feeling like I'm sliding toward the front/skinnier part of the seat.

I am 6' 4" and have actually risen the seat up a bit since that first pic. Overall it feels much more comfortable but I've only had this bike for a couple weeks and am still trying to get everything just "perfect."

Here's where it's sitting now. Hopefully continues to work well for the hrs of riding this weekend has in store.

I like a forward tilt if you measure by a straightedge atop the saddle.
Generally like level if you measure by seat rail angle.

Best way to set it up is find a hard back book, lay it on the seat and throw a level on it.

Pretty flat. The Komodo's is tilted ever so slightly nose up (so slightly I'm not sure you can even tell in the picture). If I'm spending any time in the saddle, I like it pretty horizontal. If anything though, it's tilted back, never forward.
