Are you looking for the skinny tiny eggbeaters specifically, or any eggbeater-compatible pedal?

I just switched to Time ATAC's on the suggestion of my fitter because I use them on my road bike as well, so I have a pair of Crank Brothers Acids that I only used for a year and mostly for road riding if you'd be interested.

I think it would be unethical to resell that garbage in my opinion.

check out ebay, i was looking last night, and they have tons of eggbeater pedals ranging from $32ish with shipping up to $400 just search "egg beater pedals" they have really nice ones in the $50-60 range

I have to agree with that. My eggbeaters are only five years old and have never given me a single problem in spite of the fact that I've never even thought of greasing or rebuilding them like recommended. What pieces of junk. Not to mention the Candies on my CX bike for the past three years that, again, just simply continue to work. Trash, I tell ya!

Maybe BS meant the Wellgos?

Here is my experience among many with Crank Brothers. A pair of Acids seized and twisted off it's own end cap from pedaling after only 6 months of use ON THE ROAD. Crank Brothers' line was that I should have greased them regularly.

Try to find another component manufacturer with this attitude towards their pedals ... you won't. Crank Brothers pedals survive within a very narrow band of conditions and under lightweight riders. The bike boards are full of folks letting this company know that their pedals are junk. They've been selling this junk for years and when they SHOULD have been redesigning their pedals for reliability while they worked on anodizing them with pretty colors.

FINALLY, Crank Brothers have "redesigned" their base egg beater pedal touting the new design as "stronger" and "well sealed" without acknowledging their legendary product quality problems. Though they haven't addressed their Mallet and Acid line which are even less reliable due to their being marketed to more heavy duty applications and possessing a profound stress riser at which point the pedal ALWAYS fails.

This is why I think it's unethical to sell Egg Beaters. I know their failure rate. Now imagine if the pedal decides to fail on a section of trail with a couple hundred feet of exposure. I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

Maybe I'm the exception, but I've been riding with egg beaters (various models) for about 8 years with no issues at all. That includes thousands of miles on the road plus weekly mtb rides. The only time I've pulled them apart and regreased them is when they start to squeak.
I'd highly recommend them based on my personal experience.

Well, that's the thing about anecdotal evidence. You have to investigate the circumstances. There seems to be a class for whom Egg Beaters work great. From what I gather they are IN GENERAL:

1) Under 200 pounds.
2) Ride in dry climates
3) Sponsored by Crank Brothers

You really don't read about reliability issues with Time or Shimano pedals. So it's something everyone should be aware of when they're investing in a pedal SYSTEM. I say SYSTEM because if one of your bikes get the same technology for sake of compatibility with shoes. So if you put Crank Brothers on four bikes and then finally decide all those guys on the board complaining about Crank Brothers reliability were correct, all the sudden you're in for $300-$400 to switch to another brand.

And then again. Why bother?

It is also completely possible that Eggbeater Pedals purchased over 8 years ago were constructed somewhat different, and are much sturdier than the eggbeaters produced in the last couple of years. Just sayin'.

I concur, my Crank Brothers have been great! So great in fact I bought another set of Acid's to go on my new build! That said I have never had an issue with my Forte's; or Shimano SPD's in the past. I just think every so often someone gets hold of the lemon and then they trash them forever.

And then again, a company goes through maybe a restructure and QC gets compromised for a set period of time and crap rolls off the floor! That being said, I could see how one gets upset.

But for me right now at this time and place in the wide expanse of this universe I like CB's and will use them until I find a reason to be a hater.

Have you considered the possibility that I might be a powerlifter? At my thinnest (8% body fat) I was 230#. I've seen much smaller folks produce similar results. It's their product design and poor manufacturing standards that are the problem. Not my standing XC climbs.

You must be a troll. Listen Trollie, CB makes products that are barely adequete and not remotely robust. They are a company in the business of making lemons. Occasionally they'll squeeze out an Apple.

It's not healthy to desire internet forums to validate your own consumer choices.. Its even less healthy to knock people down when they contradict your opinion (ad hominen attack vs reason).
