Bikes: raleigh peak

buying NOS wheels

i have a 91 raleigh peak. yes its old but its in great shape. except for the wheels. both rims have fatigue cracks. i found a set of NOS OEM wheels on ebay. xt hubs, sun chinook rims, skewers. exactly what my bike came with. guy wants 185 delivered. LBS i talked to said wheels are easily worth the money. is my bike worthy of spending 185 for NEW wheels? LBS said their cheapest wheels are about 100 for (2) NEW wheels. why not spend 85 more for much nicer wheels? why does a shop sell wheels or parts? not to only upgrade new bikes but to keep old bikes running?
