Need suggestion about a used bike --- Gary Fisher Sugar 1 Medium
Hi Everyone,
I have been searching for a relatively cheaper full suspension MTB for a while. Today I found a post on local craigslist, and I need your suggestion.
Gary Fisher Sugar 1 Medium - $250
2002 Gary Fisher Sugar 1 frame with Cane Creek Cloud Nine air shock, size medium.
This was the top of the line Sugar at the time. It has an almost new rear triangle with carbon stays and a high volume low pressure air shock that responds well to small bumps but has enough air not to bottom harshly on big hits. Adjustable compression and rebound and a semi-lockout lever. 70 mm travel. A fast and efficient frame. Pedals like a hardtail with smoother ride.
Brand new 2008 Marzocchi Bomber Low Pro 80mm fork.
I let someone borrow the bike and they ruined the old fork trying to take it apart, hence the new one. I've only taken a short ride with it but it seems like a plush and precise tracking fork, as you'd expect from a Bomber. One year warrantee.
Wheels: XTR non-disc hubs laced to Bontrager Valiant ceramic rims with stainless double butted spokes and brass nipples.
A very light, race-level wheelset.
Drivetrain: Deore shifters, XT front and XTR rear deraillers, Race Face Prodigy XC crank and almost new chain and Shimano 9 speed cassette.
Brakes: Avid Arch Rival w/Avid Speed Dial levers.
Combined with the rims' ceramic braking surface, stops very well (for rim brakes) even in the wet.
Miscellaneous: Chris King Headset, Thompson seat post, well worn but comfortable WTB SST saddle. 120mm Bontrager stem and Bontrager Flat bar.
Disclaimers:
Pedals not included.
Could use new tires, bar, stem, and grips.
Frame and fork are disc ready, hubs are not.
One year warrantee on fork. No guarantees on the rest of the bike.
This is basically a dream XC race bike circa 2002. It has a lot of high end parts and everything works. The fork alone cost over $250.00 with installation. It's taking up space I don't have and I'd like to sell it to someone who will ride it. I you have any questions or would like a test ride, let me know.

That sounds like a good deal to me. I've seen these Sugar 1 bikes go for a lot more. (In fact, I bought a frame -- mind you in mint condition -- for about that amount.) Buy it, ride it, enjoy it ... leave it at your gf's, whatever.
