Hopping Question

I know that hopping with a mountain bike especially a full suspension bike is quite different than hopping with a BMX bike. I cannot seem to get this hopping down on my full suspension mountain bike. I have a few questions, does the tension on the rear spring have anything to do with it and how hard do you have to lunge downward to lift the wheels. Also getting the rear wheel of the ground seems to be easier than it looks. Are there any tricks to getting down a good hop just enough to clear say a 6 in log on the trail? Thanks

Bikes: Custom built STP 3, geared towards dirtjumping. And an aging Stinky deluxe with the works

Here's what I do since all of my bikes have been to heavy to hop. Push a little bit of dirt into a lip right before the log, or pile some sticks up. Then hit the lip and jump clear over it. If there are roots in front of it they will work too. If you have the patience and determination to learn how to hop, then by all means do that. Otherwise, you can use this tip.

Bikes: specialized hardrock

im not entirely sure on the exact technique on how to hop, one of my friends taught me a year or 2 ago, when i hop(made it to about the height of a mcdonalds cup) if feels like i put pressure on the back, and then relase it quickly with kind of a back pushing motion...i dunno that much, hopin this might hlp

btw my bike is a HT so that might make a big difference, im not sure tho...

Practice makes perfect (goes without saying - i'm saying it anways) Check out the video on this site for a really good idea of how to throw around your BODY WEIGHT which is key to most things you do on a bike. Balance and where your center of gravity is positioned. https://www.spaceman.cz/main_en.html

click on school on that site to get to the videos.

(props to whoever posted that the other day - great link)
