beginner advice
I'm looking at 2 bikes and just want some information:
1. 96ish Giant ATX 860. It's got all Acera running gear, very light, but no shocks at all.
2. New Gary Fisher Turpon. Full Bontrager and Altus running gear.
I know the Acera is better gear, which I guess for now it wouldn't matter and I can always upgrade the gary later. the lack of suspension may bother me once I get to the trails...
Any opinions?

Both are basic bikes and will get you around. I would checkout the shifting on a 2-3 mile ride. Which seems to be the crispest and most consistent. If you think that suspension is an issue, get the suspension. You will always be second guessing yourself if you don't.
