need a nice full suspension MTN bike (new or Used) for trail under $1k
Name is Alex from Jersey!
need help in finding a new Mountain bike for myself that is under 1k$
i got a good amount of experice on a mnt bike & love to go fast as well in anything with wheels.
my old bike wieghed a ton, costs $500 from Costco & was only a 21 speed.
So i want something w/ a full suspension, light in wieght, 23+ gears, disc breaks & maybe have 29" wheels.
I do mostly trail riding and like the occational jump on the trail.
i like all the brands... i just need something that is light but don't break the bank & also can beat my 2 buddies bikes.
any and all suggestions are welcome for new or Used complete bikes.
im 26, 6 foot tall, 200 lb & love to go fast
Thanks ppl for the help!

you can get left over DB sorties for under a grand new. Also scope the DB mission1. If you shop around you can probably find one of those in that price range. Sortie is more xc oriented where mission is more all mountain

Craigslist is your best bet. If you check every day for 2 weeks, your bound to find a great or at least good deal. I got a 2005 rocky mountain slayer ($2000 new) for $350. Brakes were really responsive, shocks were still great, and it was perfect after I got the rust off the chain and lubed it up. Granted no bike is worth the same amount 6 years later, I'm just saying there's great deals to be had.

+1 on buying used. You won't get anything decent for $1000 new. Used will be the only way for you to get a good used full suspension bike. Companies like Specialized and Kona use the similar frame between their low to mid end bikes but just change out the parts to meet the price point. You should be able to find something from these companies in a used bike.
By the way, don't get fooled into thinking more speeds are better. Generally, the highest and lowest gear ratio stays the same. You just get more options between these gears. If that doesn't make sense, what I mean is that you won't climb and better or go any faster with "more gears". You'll just get smaller changes as you switch between gears.
hope that helps. Good luck.
