Coming down hills that are technical, but not extremely steep?

I cannot seem to come to a conclusion of what bike i should be looking at.

they are equally suitable, so get the one that fits you best. all things equal, i say trek. riding technical stuff is more about the rider and not the bike.

Yes - either would work on technical terrain. The question is "are YOU skilled enough for the terrain".

I love my Stumpjumper but it's an older model .. I'd say they're both pretty close quality, you'll find religion for each one so it's entirely preference. You could check out Giant, too, if you want to compare the Big 3 companies...

unfortunately there are no giant dealers in my area.

Yes, they will work. They are great all around trail bikes. If you only care about the downhill, and not particularly about the climb, you might look into all-mountain bikes. They're heavier but better suited for fast technical stuff.
