On the road maybe, but on the dirt that could cause some problems.
If used the way ANY chain lube should be used, this stuff is the best in ALL conditions. You don't just pour any lube on a chain and ride away as most people seem to do. You put a drop on each roller and let it seep into the chain then wipe the chain off. The lube stays inside the rollers where it belongs providing lubrication to the pins, and rollers. After a few rides wipe it down with a clean rag coated with mineral spirits, and your set for a long time, rain or shine. You need a wet lube riding in dirty, and wet conditions, and again, when used as described, your drivetrain will last, be silent, and shift smoother than it ever has. |

And don't forget, Campagnolo is better than Shimano.

This stuff seems to work well:
Rock"N"Roll Lubrication - Homepage There are 3 different types of lube depending on your terrain. Costs around $10 a bottle. I use the gold lube. |
Since I started this thread, the only maintenance I have done to my chain is pressure washing incidental to cleaning the rest of my bike. No rust or gunk, still runs and shifts smoothly and quietly.
I tried to tell y'all. |
Good follow-up. But is it the same chain...or even the same bike haha? JK.
Being the good sponsor-wh*** that I am, I just got a big ol' bottle of Renthal chain lune. M/C-sized bottle. Just put some on two nights ago; applies more like motorsickle lube than bikey stuff. Will report back later. In the meantime, better put my money where my mouth is and look up the MSDS. |
growing up I don't ever remember changing my chain on my BMX bike. I rode it from the age of 7 until about 15. The only lube I used was oil from the oil can on the farm. The same one Grandpa used to lube the bailer and manure spreader. For my bikes now I just used whatever the bike shop has, so I have the one with a yellow label.

I have no experience with it, but I have been reading that the new line of WD-40 bike products is very good.

I have about 3000 dusty, fine nasty dust with snake venom from Death Valley in it dusty, miles on my chain. A local wrench is appalled that I haven't bought a new XTR chain to protect my gears. But since I am sold and frail and have no leg power and am a cheap tight wad and my chain stills measures 12" I will keep it for a while. My Dumonde is almost gone. 2 years on one bottle.
