If you dont like it dont post in it. I hate people who post for the sake of posting. That yellow honda bike dropped my jaw open. WTF that is soo cool!

arboc! 11-16-04 11:20 PM

to bad youll never get your hands on one... i would want one to and for all the people who say its an unfare advantage they just wish they could ride for team g-cross. look at minnars standings before the bike... he still dominated.

Dannihilator 11-16-04 11:25 PM

Actually if the reports that I have heard on ridemonkey are true, the Honda DH bike will be for sale in 2005.

arboc! 11-16-04 11:31 PM

are they going to strip it down, to lessen the price, or will they sell it as is with the $1000 front fender.

Funkychicken 11-17-04 12:40 AM

alright, in the last couple of days, my eyes have been opened about 4 things:
1. Honda RN01
2. Nicolai
3. that they exist
4. wtf is with their drivetrain?

i suppose the question is directed about the 4th item - whilst i dont think anyone yet knows much about the honda internal cam/gear system, what about the nicolai frames? on the website some of the fully built frames seem to show some kind of internal mechanism as well? maybe a rohloff hub but on the cranks?

Hopper 11-17-04 01:36 AM

Mozt likely its another version of a gearbox, there are some called Pete something Gearboxes, basically it's a derailleur in a bx, seriously. Know the Honda one is a form of CVT (think that's what it is) it's like an auto transmission on a car, but redesigned quite a bit to be smaller and lighter and be ran with a shifter. They do however have them set up to have infinite gears, So if Minaar used a friction shifter, he could ultimately have infinite gears. However due to NORBA and UCI rules he must use a shifter, amazingly he uses a 7spd shifter.

As yes the RN01 is meant to be coming out to the public, but I heard somewhere that it would be using a more traditiona 7spd gearbox, similar to that on the Nicolai.

FWIW a very similar gearbox to that of the RN01 can be found on some electric scooters.

firstly, didn't the guy who originally post the question ask about bikes made in the states? if so, if i'm not mistaken, nicolais are made in germany and the hondas in japan... aren't they?

not exactly sure what the honda uses, but nicolai's been using g-boxx technology on their frames (http://www.g-boxx.org)
evil bikes based in boston are also developing it along with nicolai. they released a prototype of their evil imperial frame that incorporates the g-boxx tech... pretty dope stuff.

You are correct. I posted those pictures only because some members showed an interest in those bike, said they had never seen A pic. So I helped them out. After all thats what this forum is for. Helping out mountain bikers correct?

Maelstrom 11-17-04 03:48 PM

And I was the first that brought it up. I guess for me. There are not many american made companies worth mentioning. And the ones I like, have most stuff done in other parts of the world.

FoX Rider 11-17-04 03:52 PM

The most expensive american made bike that I can think of is probably one of the BMW bikes.

Maelstrom 11-17-04 03:53 PM

Or maybe hood :) Or Karpiel...

That honda bike is fricking ugly... i dont like it, it looks like it wieghs about 90 lbs

Maelstrom 11-17-04 03:56 PM

Ummm do you actually know anything about the bike?...it isn't anywhere NEAR that heavy. In fact I remember numbers being one of the lightest dh bikes

DjRider04 11-17-04 04:08 PM

Hoods expensive, but not too bad if I remember right......Karpiels outta business for good. BMW is up there at around $3500 or $3700 for a frame.....no idea though.

Notice how i said IT LOOKS LIKE IT WIEGHS 90lbs... that doesnt mean i think it does... if they spent 75k to make it, then i think its common sence to think that it wieghs pretty damn light... I am aloud to voice my opinion.

mtnbiker66 11-17-04 04:14 PM

A friend of mine raced NORBA and some WC in Canada. He was telling me about the Honda. Said that thing Minaar rides is sick. Anyone have an idea on cost?

75k seems like a lot to use but its just pocket change to Honda. Not that it has much relevance to this topic. Just thought I'd mention it.

Fine, opinions are your right, but research them a bit. I assumed you were saying it did weight, my mistake for misreading. For reference. 40pounds.

Its allowed...you are allowed to voice your opinion aloud.

But in its day, karpiel was dang expensive. I just assume hood was, I really don't know anything about the company itself, I am not a fan of steel duallies.
