Why limit it to '04? I recollect back in the eighties, the American Bicycle Compay in St Cloud, Minnesota (Remember the American Breezer, M-16, etc.) advertised a mountain bike frame, hardtail of course, made of some exotic unobtanium (Berylium maybe?) with an asking price of $20,000+. Does anyone remember any of the details of this?

issues034 11-17-04 04:24 PM

It does look heavy, but they prbably used some thing like titanium, maybe aluminum, would you think so?

FoX Rider 11-17-04 04:29 PM

Maybe it's hollow.

jeff_a 11-17-04 04:31 PM

gruppo, i remember that bike. it was made of beryllium and was priced around 20,000

I am too young...although I bet somewhere, there is a Ti frame that is worth over 10,000$...

I wouldn't mind riding one. Nice bike man!

arboc! 11-20-04 03:40 PM

how much is it

Maelstrom 11-20-04 03:57 PM

I am almost possitive they have been discontinued. But I imagine, as with everything nicolai, 3000 to 5000$ for the frame.

My mistake they do exist...2900$ american

FoX Rider 11-20-04 04:22 PM

I really like the Nicolai frames, Maybe if when i'm older and I have money i'll invest in one. They look awesome and I bet they ride pretty damn well and don't break often.

Maelstrom 11-20-04 04:38 PM

Best warranty in the business too.

C.F.F 11-21-04 09:31 AM

Yeah mine is a 2k3 and it still has 3 years left on the warranty.I bought it off the Nicolai Rep here in Toronto. The new Nicolai TST with internal gearbox reatails for $8400 canadian.Check it out at www.nicolai.net .This bike is so far the best Bike I have ridden. You can adjust rear travel from 6 inches to 8.3 inches, you can adjust the seat tube angle which adjusts top tube length and it will take any shock up to a 3 inch stroke.Pretty adjustable.

I would beleive it... I read in a MBaction magazine that the prototype for the Rock Shox Boxxer world cup was some 30 000$. The manitou dorado single crown was 10 000$

Brian 11-21-04 09:30 PM

Ok, I'm off topic. This wasn't built in the US, it was built in Australia, but most parts were imported from the US. It's our tandem, with Ti used wherever possible. Initial cost was about AU$8k, but we've probably added another grand since this photo. http://www.ozbikesports.com/images/t...lighthouse.jpg

A tandem is a hole in a mountain you pour your money into, or something like that.

Funkychicken 11-22-04 12:41 AM
