Fork Gators

I just want to know if there is a problem with removing the rubber gators from the front forks of a mountain bike. I have a 5 year old trek 6500 with Rock Shox Judys and would like to take the gators off. If there is no problem why do the cheaper forks tend to come with them?

The fork boots are on there for a reason. They come on the cheaper ones more due to pore seals. Some people remove the fork boots for the reasons of it looks better, personally I think my fork looks better not leaking from scratches and cleaning the oils and everything else often is not worth it.

Run a search on Fork boots and you will come up with tons of opinions for or not having.
