first timer single track

just tore up some wicked single track. wrists kill. SHould I get a different bar?

pablosnazzy 08-09-11 10:36 PM

maybe a different stem. maybe stronger wrists. depends. whatever you do, keep riding and having fun. having a fun time riding a bike is all that matters.

Look into proper lower arm/wrist alignment (tons of pics, info online), and make sure you are positioned right. Might also be just the pains from the first few times.

Might just be a break in period. Keep a loose grip, don't strangle bars. If it persists higher bars often helps. Swap bar or stem whatever you want

Hold on loosely but dont let go,if you cling too tightly you gonna lose control

Classic....when I ride I try to humm that song in my head when I start white knucklin my grips

scyclops 08-10-11 03:32 PM

Try this style of grips - they give your palms some support and help stabilize your wrists.

Also, if you don't already have at least a 25-26" (and preferably 26-27") bar then yes, get a new bar. The extra strain of trying to control the bike with a too narrow bar wouldn't be helping things.

I got a set of those last week... I like them a lot. I don't know how well they'd work if you are an aggressive rider that does serious uphill and downhill rides, but they work fine for me.

Yeah, I can't do Ergons on the trail because it is like my last 2 fingers aren't gripping the bar at all.
