Questions on fork upgrade.
Hey, I have a Specialized Hard Rock Sport Disc 29er (2010) and I am looking for a new fork. What would be a good upgrade for the bike? What things do I need to look for compatibility wise other than the wheel size. I want to go either air or hydraulic, and this is for moderate off road and mtb trail riding. Lockout would also be nice for getting to and from the trail. I have been told the stock forks are crap, and I think this will be the first upgrade that I will do.

Do you mean air or coil?
Check steerer tube size (1-1/8, 1.5, or tapered...you may be able to put in a reducer headset if your headtube is too large), check to see what kind of front hub you have unless you want to buy a new front wheel, make sure the steerer tube hasn't been cut too short, check the axle to crown measurement to see if it's comparable to your bike or that it'll change the geometry in a way you want.

So now the question is, anyone have a suggestion on a fork (brands to even a specific)?

Coil isn't necessarily worse than air. It's heavier, and it's not as infinitely adjustable as air because there are only certain weight coils, but it offers more linear travel, and some people like it because they say it's smoother.
