Hey ed, long-time poster, first-time pain-in-the-ass here with a question:

When you gonna huck that bad boy Parker off of some elementary school roof? Like 10-feet-to-flat or so? And will you plz put the vid on PinkBike? Thx.

It's too bad we have to work. Can you imagine how much riding we'd get to do if we didn't have to spend time on BF? Makes me cry. Ed, can I ride my bike now?

ed 09-26-11 05:00 PM

the porker is out of commission for a while i was shredding the MUP with it and came to a cross street and saw that there was a curb but it was like a 6 foot to flat curb so i hucked it and it did fine but then i got back on the mup and got mugged but then i got it back because i'm so hard and then i felt invinsible and rode it over a speedbump and must have overcompressed my rockshocks and brake my forks

I don't think "sociopath" is the same as "socially inept."

Did I ever mention that I was totally set up for that pic? 66 was like "here, hold this" and I was thinking "okay, now why the hell did he bring a bush axe to the gathering, that seems pretty odd, i better keep an eye on this dude" and then he was like <click>.

Ed,

Why am I such a hack?

Why are BMXers more often ******-bags than MTBers?

When will I have time/transportation to go to the trails again?

All the best,
Sam

1. Because you seek me for advice.
2. BMX'ers rock. The only ones who rock harder are urban BMX'ers...and me, of course.
3. When you become friends with the BMX'ers and talk them into driving you to the trails.:thumb:

Can't speak on the attitude of any urban riders, as I haven't exchanged words with any. I definitely like/envy their style more though.

I showed up at the BMX track with my newly acquired 20" bike yesterday when they happened to be working on the track & the first thing I hear is "who the f*** is this guy?" in an unpleasant tone, proving that I'm well within earshot. Then I asked politely if the track was closed & I got completely ignored after asking three times before someone decent came over & talked to me. If they were working & tired/grouchy, I could understand it, but these guys were just sitting on top of a berm while everyone around them was working. The track wasn't closed after all (with the exception of the last straight) but then it occurred to me that I had no brakes & there were a few dozen people working/riding around the track, which might prove to be dangerous. So I left feeling somewhat defeated.

I guess it should be noted that they were all much younger (maybe 15-16?) & I never really got along with the average guy that age, even when I was one of them. But still, I didn't have the same problem with any of the skaters/bikers at the skatepark.

Are you still sticking to that "brush axe" story? That wasn't the way I heard it.

Not necessarily. As long as you're not running into a braze-on, high pivot, etc...it should work. Just depends on the frame. I had a ht with a really low bottle mount...the bottom-swing overlapped it b/c I had to raise it up high. When I built my XLT, I couldn't use my top-swing that I already had b/c the clamp ran into the main pivot.

Is there any preventative maintenance one should do to prolong the life of rear shocks and/or front forks? I saw these boots for rear shocks and forks, and being mindful of the power of marketers to sell solutions in search of problems, figured there was no harm in asking.

What is a ballpark lifespan of, say, a Fox 32 F-Series RL fork, and a Fox Float RP-2?

Thanks in advance

I'd avoid the shock covers and stanchion covers, they will trap dirt in between and will have a worse wear rate than what you get without them.

They will last a long time depending on how well you keep them maintained. The F100 I have on the dmr is a 2007 and it's still going strong.
