My passion for MTB came back...

I've been riding MTB serious since 2007, but I stopped riding MTB 2 years ago and recently got into the "FIXED GEAR" cliche and I liked it. They were very simple bikes to work with, nothing to worry about and easy to go around in the city. But once I bought a rigid MTB commuter, my passion for MTB came back 10x. I just want to go MTB every day as much as I do with my fixed gear. The thing is that it's easier and convenient for fixed gear riding because there is mostly streets where I live. I have to travel 15 minute drive to reach to a trail nearby to ride my MTB again. Maybe I will just Limit my MTB riding for the weekends. Does anyone do this too? ride road bikes more often than their MTB?

Bikes: A fat tire & a skinny tire & two others I loaned out

I just bought a cheap BMX bike for something fun to play around with on the streets. I'm about 30 minutes from the nearest trails & my only personal vehicle (hopefully only for another few weeks at this point) is a motorcycle, so I have to borrow a car to get my MTB there. The 20" bike, on the other hand, is small enough that I can strap it to the back of my motorcycle & take it anywhere local (it's only secure up to about 50mph). The BMX track is 15 minutes away, the skate park is 10 minutes away, & there are any number of ledges & staircases around town to play with (though a cop assigned to each one, it seems).

However, when I get a four-wheeled vehicle in a few weeks here, it's on like Donkey Kong. It takes me 25 minutes just to get to work every day so I can deal with another 30 to the trails no problem, since it's proving to be one of my bigger passions. Plus there's another set of trails (where they held the Olympic MTBing here in 1996) about 5 minutes from school, so I'll definitely be at the trails Tuesdays & Thursdays.

The small bike, for me, is just something to keep me entertained when I can't MTB, & so I can go to the skatepark with my friends without being a total outcast. MTBing is my true passion.

a 15 minute trip to a trail isn't really that far. i would think if your passion for mountain biking came back tenfold, a 15 minute car ride to ride your bike wouldn't matter at all, but perhaps there are circumstances i don't know.

either way, it's not a competition. ride whatever bike you like wherever you like however you like. as long as you are riding a bike, that is all that really matters.

I wish trails were only a 15 minute drive from me!

If the commute is really an issue, well...

5 minute car ride from here or 2.5 hours if I want some cooler weather and some trout fishing to boot. Its a great way of enjoying life. Sometimes it just fun to find a rock on top of something and just holler at the world.
