questions from a noob~

hi guys i am a total noob to bikes and everything.
got a few questions hope you guys can help me out
1. on youtube i type in mountain biking or xc it always shows those high speed down hill video, is there any decent demonstration of xc or any non-downhill mountain biking?

2. ive also seen some videos from danny macaskill and i noticed (if not mistaken) his bikes dont have any suspension and his doing all those jump and drop. Why do we need suspension to be so good on mountain bikes?

Bikes: Bike Count: Rising.

1: Easier to make a segment with DH and freeride than it is for XC. Plus XC is a bit like golf, fun to play, boring as all get out to watch. There are some exceptions though, you just have to find them.

2: In some senses rigid teaches better technique, but suspension does help make line selection much easier. Macaskill is a trials/street rider where suspension can be a major hinderance, plus rigid makes a trials/street bike lighter.
