The good: you got out there & rode. Good for you! (seriously, not being sarcastic)

The bad: Riding on walking trails; riding with no helmet; the music at the beginning; walking up a perfectly good hill.

Not quite sure what the issue is with the lack of helmet. Most of all, a helmet is a personal choice. "Whatever" if the OP doesn't want to wear one. And it's not like that was particularly helmet worthy riding/terrain anyway. I might not have either. I never do on my 1mi commute to work on untrafficed roads. Maybe find a video of someone on some real trails with some nice sharp, or at least plentiful/large rocks and whine about them not wearing a helmet.

Not cool riding on trails that clearly aren't riding trails, though. Find some MTB trails to ride. If nothing else, OP, you're giving bikers everywhere a bad name. Glad you crashed(though didn't get seriously injured).

I'd say the fact that he's DJing in the woods is reason enough to wear a helmet, but maybe those trees are softer than the trees down here. All I know is that when I endo'd & hit my helmet on a tree, it did a fine job of cracking it in half. I can only assume it would do something similar to a naked head.

Thats exactly what I thought. If there weren't the jumps there I myself probably wouldn't wear a helmet, but while jumping I always were a helmet. However, I do agree with 3speed that a helmet is a personal choice, and if someone wants to go DHing without a helmet who am I to tell them that they can't do it. However, 3speed, I also do feel that if a person is jumping or doing something that could that easily end in a wreck (which even happened in the vid) they should be wearing a helmet and if they aren't I should at least inform them that it is much safer to do so. After I tell them that they should wear one if they choose to or not is their own choice. However, I like to think that here on the forums, we are more of a community and like to help other whenever possible, and if criticizing the OP for not wearing a helmet will get him to go out and get one and get past the stigma that (non avid cyclist create) about helmets being uncool, then I did good.

Eye protection is also something I would suggest in your personal risk assessment.

True, I always either wear a pair of sunglasses or a pair of (decent looking :D) safety glasses depending on how light/dark it is out while I'm riding, I also wear gloves (after crashing earlier this summer and slicing up my hand pretty badly). But those things while still very helpful and usuful, just aren't as important as a helmet.

it's no danny mcaskill video, but it's not bad. it's kids having a good time on bikes, which is what bikes are about.

you sound like old curmudgeonly people not understanding why "kids are riding those dumb contraptions."

you complain he is riding on "walk only" trails and then bust on him for walking.

i walk up hills all the time. nothing wrong with that.

his bike isn't hurting the trail. he wasn't hitting walkers. he was having fun.

so he doesn't wear a helmet. growing up i never wore a helmet and we did jumps in the woods. the kid isn't doing super D without a helmet, he isn't doing any huge airs. yeah, there are trees near by, but it doesn't look all that deadly.

seriously. you all need to lighten up. the kid on the bike is having fun, not destroying land, not hurting anyone, he is doing what you are supposed to do on a bike.

^ For the most part, I agree. The only thing being that I do feel it's the responsible thing to do to not ride on walking trails, and to discourage others from doing so. That's why that was the only negative comment I made about it.

the only reason he is "poaching" is because someone put a sign saying "foot traffic only." it's dirt. i know, it's a whole other conversation, but...

i've "poached" trails, as have most riders i know. i just don't see it as a big deal. at least the kid is riding a bike. that means more to me than the fact he rode his bike on "foot only" dirt.

Riding his bike is certainly a lot better than him sitting inside playing video games all day.

i don't think those jumps were built. i think they were natural formations that a keen eyed cyclist sees as jumps. seriously, i think that is just how the land lays.

another possible explanation is, there were riding trails, and they were off from the "walking trail."

and yet another explanation is, someone built jumps in a "walking trail only" area, this is commonly known as the "secret/illegal trail".
