I thought about padding the headboard . . ..

I sweat so daggum much...jeans just get too heavy for me. I use BDU's.

My favorite riding jeans are some $15 guess jeans I got at cross-dress for less. They're 80% cotton/20% poly and fairly thin so they stay cool and they don't take 2 hours to dry!

Same here. People tell me I just need to break them in, but I don't buy it. Shoes are more comfortable after being broken in, but they don't bother me when new like jeans do.

I will resort to soccer shorts if my riding shorts are in the laundry or too dirty/smelly to wear again before washing, & I almost always rock the plain white T on the trails. I've yet to ride in weather <50 degrees so I can't say what I'll do for cold weather pants, but a fleece lined windstopper jacket, long sleeve jersey, & windproof gloves are on the Christmas list so I can make up for lost time when I get back on four wheels.

Haha I was about to put my dirty stuff on to go riding yesterday, but my girlfriend stopped me =\. I tried to tell her that it is so muddy up there that it doesn't make a difference. It took two washes to get all the dirt out from my ride on Sunday.

I wash my panties after every ride. Seriously people. hygene!

i didn't have too much time, just built up my new bike, and wanted to take it for a ride, so i drove to the trail, hopped on the bike in the clothes i was wearing and did a short 4 mile ride, jeans, hoodie, sneakers (another great thing about flat pedals).

i've ridden in jeans before, i will do it again. i've ridden in carharts when we do trail maintenance. i really don't mind it and when you don't' have time to change and all, it makes sense.

anyone else ride in regular clothes?

I always ride in regular clothes, just not jeans. They seem like the kind of thing that would get wet quickly in the rain, get wet with sweat quickly, and then be very unpleasant to ride in. I've got a few pairs of quick-trying trousers that I use for walking. They've got drawstrings on the bottom of the legs so I can tighten them (prevents them snagging in the chain), the legs unzip at the knee (so for the summer I can take the legs with me in case of nettles while normally riding in shorts), and because they are quick drying if I get caught in a downpour as soon as the sun comes out they are dry within minutes.

I wear a T-shirt in the summer, in the winter I'll add either a body warmer or my hi-vis waterproof depending on the forecast and conditions. For winter riding this is increasingly unsatisfactory due to lack of breathability so I'll probably end up getting a cycling jersey at some point.

Lol you are telling a medical student about hygiene =P. You do realize that most sportswear stuff you can only wash at like 30C right (I guess a pro for jeans =P)? Also, most detergents do little to actually kill any sort of creature that would grow and cause problems, they just loosen up dirt/oil to be washed away by water (and also many microorganisms, except if they have established a decent little population). If you do let you pants stay wet and dirty than a better environment for the problem causing microorganisms will be created. However, if the pants are allowed to sufficiently dry, and are worn the first time by a clean body then the chance of a microorganism sustaining environment developing within two rides is really quite small, but would certainly increase quite quickly with additional rides.

If I had the luxury of having enough money to buy as many pairs of every kind of pant that I wear than I would most likely switch out after every ride. However, I have to prioritize, and wearing my pants a second time is not that bad =P.

:lol:Hygiene, man. This is probably new to you, but we XCers often wear these liners under our shorts called a "chamois" to help make sitting more comfortable, & they absorb the majority of the sweat that perspires from the groin area. Gets pretty nasty after a ride or two.

Doohickie 12-06-11 08:38 AM

I have some cycling clothes but don't wear them too much. A lot of my rides have a social aspect to them, meeting friends for a beer, etc. I sometimes ride Saturday breakfast rides with a local club; that's when I'm most like to wear cycling gear; also when I commute. Otherwise, it's mostly street clothes for me.

scrublover 12-06-11 09:06 AM

Not really, other than around town once in a while.

The humidity half the year, and general wetness the rest of the year around here makes it veeeeeery uncomfortable.

Interesting. I've been wanting to drive to Sedona for years. From what you say I'd better bring the MTB along.
