riding in jeans
 

it was cold today, but no snow, the trails are still dry and rideable.

i didn't have too much time, just built up my new bike, and wanted to take it for a ride, so i drove to the trail, hopped on the bike in the clothes i was wearing and did a short 4 mile ride, jeans, hoodie, sneakers (another great thing about flat pedals).

i've ridden in jeans before, i will do it again. i've ridden in carharts when we do trail maintenance. i really don't mind it and when you don't' have time to change and all, it makes sense.

anyone else ride in regular clothes?

i only ride in regular clothes. Shorts and t-shirt in summer. Jeans and hoodie/coat in winter. I do hate riding in jeans though cause my pant leg occasionally gets caught in between the crank and chain.

I ride in jeans often. 8 miles 5 days a week to work. That kinda denim base mileage makes the occasional 35 mile jaunt in broken-in 501s no problemo.

Did 10.7 miles in my 560s today. Mix of road, MUP, singletrack and light DJ action.

I ride naked.

Almost always in jeans when on the dmr this time of year, summer: Shorts.

I only have one pair of jeans =(. I would get way too wet and cold if I wore regular clothes also. Maybe my pants aren't loose enough, but they also like to ride up my crotch when I sit and spin. For me tights with chamois covered with mtb baggy shorts work really well and are comfortable.

After getting hit by a car and the resulting road rash I don't even wear sleeveless shirts anymore while biking =P. The fresh feeling of the wind in the summer would be nice though I imagine.

It requires a saddle modification.

When I lived in the Pacific Northwest, I almost never rode in jeans- the cotton and wet climate made a poor combination. Now that I'm in Flagstaff, the jeans are seeing some seat time again for local rides.

We've been dry here for like 4 days in a row!!!! I heard tell that Flag's been getting dumped on winter wonderland style.

When I retire I'm going back to Flagstaff. That place was awesome.

and it's conveniently located near Sedona, which has super amazing riding and it is crazy beautiful

Me= XC lycra weenie old school holdout. It's comfy for me.

I've been toying with the idea of painting some jeans with linseed oil and using those as my rain pants. I roll in to work with typical plastic rainpants these days, but the waterproof jeans would be pretty sweet.

I know oiled canvas has a grand tradition, but another way to waterproof fabric is to mix silicone caulk with mineral spirits, and paint that on. Don't use the expensive "paintable" caulk, but do use 100% silicone. I have done this with nylon, but not denim.

I have old jeans, new jeans and dress jeans. I have ridden with shorts under my jeans on really cold days. Jeans are good.

Just did a 7 mile "lunch" ride on my folder in jeans, because I am at work. Its ok with the very upright seating position of the folder, but don't think I would want to do much more mileage than that. Lycra is much more comfortable.

No jeans for me. I actually don't like denim much in general...kind of stiff and restrictive, IMO. Okay for being not active, but not so much for mountain biking. Sometimes I'll wear running stores if I'm just playing around on my BMX bike, but every time I try to do that on my mountain bike they get caught on the saddle. So it's either baggies or cargo pants that I own multiple pairs of for some reason, but are too baggy and ridiculous looking to actually wear for most purposes. Guess the cargo pants count as regular clothes. And I'm way less picky for shirts...I have a couple jerseys, but wear t-shirts and hoodies just as frequently.

+1 on the cargo pants for cold weather.

Ride in jeans all the time, most days to work. Just yesterday went for a 25+ mile ride through SF in jeans and street shoes. No problems whatsoever!

Yep pant legs rolled up...if its cold...pant leg rolled up with Under Armour....if its wet...then the rain gear comes out!

and, just to clarify, i am talking about mountain biking in jeans, not just riding around on the road. climbing, hucking, etc, like when you were a little kid....

not that it matters too much...

I'm partial to my ONE Industries kit pajamas . . .

Apparently people have died from head trauma suffered from falling out of there beds! You just never know!
