The best riding I do is NOT LOCAL! The local trails have two-way singletrack and let me tell you that there is nothing worse than flying down a trail on a juiced Jekyll and running into oncomming traffic riding helmetless on a Huffy!
For great riding, I put the bike on the roof and head to Michigan--Fort Custer State park, for great riding and parental hospitality!

In southern FL there is some surprisingly good riding! I visited my folks down there over Thanksgiving and rode a county park near Ft. Myers that was sandy and full of coral (OUCH!) but fun. The real kickin' ride was over toward Lauderdale at Markham Park. WAHOO!!

I've ridden the trails in Ft. Myers and they pale in comparison to those near Ocala. I agree, I've ridden with people from out of state that are always surprised with the trails down here. What we lack in elevation, we make up for in technical difficulty! Conversely, when I travel out of state and tell people I'm from FL, they write me off! That is until I smoke em through the tough sections of a trail!

Cristina Lake in B.C. Their are unlimited places to ride here in the Kootney's. There are a million logging roads. Tones of trail sysytems that have been kept up by government grants, and a lot of trails that have been maintained and built up by bikers. A lot of ski hills here in the kootneys have also started running their lifts in the summer for those that enjoy downhill. Their are also a few long distance trails like the Trans Canada trail, Dewdney Trail, and the KVR ( Kettle Valey Railroad). The railroads have just recently opened up due to CPR pulling up all their old Routs. I am taking a trip this summer on the KVR it will be around 500 km. It runs through a lot of the back country of B.C. A lot of municipalities have started to miantain the the old railroad grades that run through their towns and the rout is becoming quite popular with people coming from all over the world to ride it. THe trail runs over many passes through maney old rock tunnels and over some of the highest train trecels in North America. This is my first year getting into cycling and I think it will be a fun first trip. If anybody wishes to check out the rout it is on a web site. I will post it on the reply right after this one, I have to find it.

I finally went back to Snow Hill in Chuluota (I guess it is named for the white sand) after my foot injury....and my cortisone injections! It is healed up for the most part (no more limping). I only stopped riding for a week or two, but stuck with paved trails until I healed better. The last few weeks I've been doing some easier off road stuff.
Even at Snow Hill I didn't do the same course where I injured myself (I need to work up to that)...it's just a little too intense for me at my level...too many hills and huge tree roots all at the same time. I stuck with the super winding trails with lots of tree roots and bridges and not as not as many hills. I still managed to fly off the bike once, get stung by a bee, and get some pedal wounds but overall I consider it a success! One of my friends was zooming ahead & crashed into another biker head-on coming the opposite way. My friend's old steel Diamond back was fine but he bent up the other guy's brake levers...amongst other damage (his bike was probably worth 4x as much at least)!
Anyway, I want to try out Ocala too! I hope their are some easy trails for me! I am taking the trails slowly trying to become one with my bike! I'm not looking for another injury that has me unable to walk for 2 months.

Hey A2pys, if you ever get down as far as Ft. Lauderdale for Markham, I recommend also going a little further south to North Miami Beach's Oleta State Rec. Park. There are some great trails there and some are pretty technical. I've never been to Markham, but I hear good things.

Providence, RI...places to ride: Arcadia in Kingston, RI: it has some great technical trails mixed w/single track; Big River in RI: primarily single track and for a quick jaunt there is Lincoln Park.
When I go back to Vermont: most of the places are trails I rode as a teenager-unmarked, still there and unknown...:cool:

Currently in Munich Germany since May 2001. great riding in the Alps although there are fewer singletracks (you have to look) but TONS of vertical. The MTB races here have 1000-3000m vertical (3300-10000ft!) - did some great riding over Easter in northern Italy where there is some sweet technical downhill combined with 2000m+ of climbing!! have my first race this year on Sunday - 50km, 1000m vertical in Austria. There's a race in May in Lake Garda Italy with something like 3200m vertical (10,000ft of climbing)- never done that much in one day on trails...
i lived 10 months in Worcester Mass - great technical trails in Mass, Vermont and NH, although not much vertical for long climbs or descents. i used to climb MT Wachusette the tallest in central Mass 2 or 3 times for vert - never did the Mt Washington hill climb although sounds good. in Mass, Leominster, Vietnam, Callahan my favorites...
and before i lived 3 years in Portland Oregon - great MTB trails! all kinds of rolling, steep, wet, dry, technical, smooth... Brown's Camp in the Coastal Mtns, 3-corner Rock in Washington, Hood River, Bend, etc. and of course Forest Park in the city for after work...
and before that Texas (Austin, Houston-yuk, and Dallas) - Austin has some pretty decent trails (eg City Park). Houston has Memorial Park but it's damn flat. Dallas i only did road riding...

Hey Stella I'm from Providence too! You ought to check out Freetown St. forest, it's near Fall River. I haven't been to Arcadia yet, but will go soon. Maybe we could get together for a ride sometime:thumbup:
