98 Specialized FSR ltd. full suspension

I've had this bike for quite some time, just wanted some opinions on it. Tell me how much you like it, or hate it. One of my main questions would be how much is it worth. These pictures are old. Since then, I have upgraded the rear derailleur and V-brakes to XTR.

Frame - medium size 1998 Specialized FSR ltd. aluminum full suspension
Fork - Rock Shox Judy XL long travel cartridge system
Rear suspension - Fox Vanilla race air
Cranks - Specialized
Headset - Chris King no threadset
Brake levers / Shifters - Shimano deore XT
Brake calipers - Shimano XTR V-brakes
Front derailleur - Shimano Deore XT
Rear derailleur - Shimano XTR
Bars - FSA maximus
Stem - Bontrager
Wheelset - Mavic 221 rims w/ Shimano deore LX hubs
Seatpost - Ritchey
Seat - Serfas cosmos

I had the same frame (MAX backbone) except it was labeled a 98 FSR Pro. One of the last US built Speckleizd. Came with XT/XTR, a Marzocchi X-Vert R and a Fox Vanilla RC coil. I broke it.

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.

One of the bikes of my dreams back in the day. Loved the Max-backbone frames; funny, i still have a Judy XLC dual-crown squirreled away in my stash of parts. Your FSR's not worth much dollar-wise any more but it still carries serious 'cool bike' cred.

dminor I could put you on to a large frame with MRP roller bearing pivots, BETD linkage, and Vanilla TC. You'd probably not ride it much but it would get you some serious C&V cred.

Or not.

^^ I think my collarbone alone has enough serious C&V cred

Damn, that would be kinda fun - - it's got all the right stuff. However, I'm already in a pickle having to jettison the stable of the Plummer's Nightmare, the TrekMongrel, a wonky IT 175, etc. to make room for an SB66.

Will a Fox float RP23 work with this bike? I need a rear suspension upgrade asap.

Just call Fox tomorrow. Their number is on their site, foxracingshox.com. They have a database of bikes and what shocks fit, what tune to use, etc.

Bikes: 2014/17 Trek Domane 5.2, 2003 Fuji Cross, 2019 Trek Fuel EX8 27.5 Plus, 2012 Raleigh XXIX single-speed, 2017 Access Gravel

For a price comparison, I sold my 1997 Specialized Ground Control last summer (2011) for $180. That still had a lot of stock parts but also a Judy XC fork, Avid Single-digit brakes and the biggest upgrade was a Risse Racing Astro-5 rear shock. Your FSR is the better bike but I don't know how much that would translate into dollars considering it is still 14 years old.
