My LBS has one. I actually got it out in the lot one day while milling around down there and I liked it. Just needed a beefier shock, but I'm a big guy. As far as what others thing. Mtbr.com has a Average Rating 4.71/5 on it. Can't be that bad of a bike. Just make sure it fits you and will suit your use.

What are your priorities and style of riding?
If you do mostly XC type stuff and NOT any big jumps, it's a good bike.
Also, with Cannondale, you pay a lot for the "Handmade in the USA" aspect of the frame. This matters to some people, not to others. You decide.
The benefit, is that it's a frame suitable to upgrade over time.
The drawback is that it has a component level that is on other manufacturers bike that cost $100 to $200 less. So, you're paying for the quality of the frame.
In other words, you can get a better deal on a bike with better components if you don't care that the frame was made Overseas.
Just so you know, I LIKE Cannondale. I just don't like PAYING for Cannondale.

agreed...I saw the bike at the LBS and loved it but I didn't like the fact that it was more expensive than the other similarly equipped bikes... Great bike but I couldn't justify the price premium. FWIW, the one at our local shop actually had BB7's on it instead of the BB5's because it was an early production run.

I don't think that you pay that much more for the name, though. Cannondales are great bikes and in terms of quality you get what you pay for. I have been riding my Killer V for 12 years, and it is still sweet. I'm actually finally ready to upgrade--probably to the new F400, or maye the Kona Cinder Cone

I've been riding a '04 F600 about 4 or 5 times a week for about a month now. Before that I rode a '94 Kona Lava Dome (heavily modded thru the years) for 10 years. The F600 is a terrific XC bike. The headshock is perfect for my riding (mainly quick singletrack with lots of roots and some rocks). The bike is very nimble, and I have the X-Large version. The frame is very stiff, but can be hard on my old back after an hour of hard riding. I guess I'm just used to the Cro-Mo Lava Dome frame. Also, the welds on the frame look very trick...they must be sanded or shaved down because there are no ripples like every other Alu frame I've seen (might just be me though since this is my first C'dale and I never really paid attention to them before).
Like said above...I would recommend the F600 for singletrack, fireroad, and climbing (due to the shock lock-out). I don't ride downhill so I don't know about that, but I did read a magazine review that said they were very surprised with how well it handled downhills.
Besides my old Kona I can only compaire the F600 to my brother's Gaint Rainier. The Rainier had a much heavier frame, the same Avid disk brakes, and Marzocchi Bomber shock. Between the two bikes, I would chose the F600 for the kind of trails I ride, but would probably chose the Rainier for real downhill mountain riding. The Bomber shock absorbs the big hits a lot better than the headshock.
Anyway...just my 2 cents.
