Trek X-Caliber 7 => 17.5" or 18.5" advice

Hi.
I am about to pull the trigger on a new Trek X-Caliber 7.
I am 5' 9 1/2" with an inseam of 30 or 31 depending on the pant.
For riding, typically riding through woods 20+ miles at a time - not too technical. Lots of straightaways. Occasional climbs and descents.
I sat on 15.5" and it's too small. I sat on 19.5" and it's too big.
I just can't decide on 17.5" or 18.5"....honestly don't think I can tell the difference.
The sales guy is very helpful, thinks the 17.5 is better - says I'm sitting just a bit more upright than on the 18.5".
This eBicycles size calculator points me in the 17.5 range too.
A short parking lot jaunt did nothing to convince me one size or the other.
My old mountain bike, a 1994 Trek 830 measures in between the current Trek 17.5 and 18.5 though I'm sure the geometry is different now.
I feel like I can't go wrong, and everything says if you are between sizes to go with the smaller bike.
But I wonder if anyone out there with similar measurements would have an opinion that may reinforce my 17.5" choice or think more about 18.5"
This is my first 29-er...so don't want to screw it up out of the gate.
Thanks,
JTF

Whenever you're between sizes, ALWAYS go with the smaller sized bike! ...ALWAYS!!!

'Nuff said!

Thanks, I have read that. I ordered the bike. They don't phone in the orders until Monday, so I have the weekend to waver on my decision. Would have been simpler if the had the orange color one in stock and I already had it home! Grrr...
