DOC vs. .243

Hey, i'm looking at two frames for the new season, both steel and both somewhat around the same price. As you can tell the Evil Doc and and .243 frames. Just a stright forward question, which frame do you think would suit my riding better. I ride mostly urban but am going to try to venture into the word of freeride trail riding this summer. Thanks

Maelstrom 03-27-05 08:30 PM

Umm they are both meant for the same thing and the geometries are similar. DOC is likely lighter, the .243 is a beast.

Also look a the Transition TrailorPark. Unreal frame

arboc! 03-27-05 08:42 PM

the doc is super popular this year, its definatly sick. its popularity may make it scarce though

Bartic 03-27-05 08:47 PM

The Block 8 Journeyman is also looking popular anybody rode one or have any info?

The Trail-or-Park looks nice. Are the rear dropouts set for QR or solid axles and those seat stays look pretty radical, what is the price in Canadian

Maelstrom 03-27-05 09:20 PM

I am guessing you both spend time on ridemonkey...one thing, don't fall into the ridemonkey purchasing rut. Its an expensive rut to live in.

The dropouts work with either. IT has a neat tensioner systems that mounts either. But in reality I would always use a TA with it :) Frame ends up around 400$...you buy direct from Kyle. The owners are good people :) Your best deal comes when you buy it with a fork. I bought it last year with a slider and the frame was basically free.

Bartic 03-27-05 09:24 PM

Whats the ridemokey rut? What do you suggest for a fork frame combo from transition?

Maelstrom 03-27-05 09:26 PM

Depends. What kind of riding do you want to do and how much money. I am partial to the z1 but if you don't have the cash maybe go for a djer.

Ridemonkey rut is a joke I use to explain how ridemonkey works. half the people there are sponsored or industry workers and don't pay full price for diddly. They live in this fantasy world where "a-type is the best" however 99% of the time the best actually means newest most expensive. Ridemonkey is the epitome of "buying into the hype"...

Bartic 03-27-05 09:29 PM

Awesome, really looking the transition with the dj1, or would the flick be more worth the money with longer travel

Maelstrom 03-27-05 09:30 PM

Its sexy. Thats what I run. The bike feels perfect for park, urban and djing.

Maelstrom 03-27-05 09:31 PM

Oh and the transition is lighter than .243and the geometry feels better. I loved .243 and always wanted one....until I got my ToP

handlebarsfsr 03-27-05 09:34 PM

i totally agree about ridemonkey.. but i love rm. b/c half the people get stuff new at cost, and they have to have the latest and greatest, they sell their stuff with minimal use for dirt cheap, and anyone who didnt get those deals has to lower their prices to almost unreal levels too. compared with what stuff is selling on ebay, the same stuff on rm is selling at about half the price.

Bartic 03-27-05 09:34 PM

What is the aprox shipping time if you might know?

Edit: srry my bad ytou would know, we live in diffreent places

handlebarsfsr 03-27-05 09:36 PM

case in point... http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=114038

Maelstrom 03-27-05 09:48 PM

Took mind 3 months ;)...but I pre ordered with a 2005 fork last summer, so I had to wait for stock.

Maelstrom 03-27-05 09:50 PM

I still like and visit ridemonkey often. I just find it too cliquish and kind of annoying. What killed it for me was the respect group/thread/*******...they drove me nuts. I stopped visiting for about 3 months because of how annoying they were.

Dannihilator 03-27-05 09:52 PM

Or you can get a Cowan for a bit less than a DOC or a .243

Its torn down right now. Getting a TA rear wheel and a SS conversion kit so it will be a true SS. Beyond the drive train, thats basically how she will look. I also have a thomson seatpost that can go all the way down, making it nice and clean looking.

arboc! 03-27-05 11:34 PM

definatly cool

MadMan2k 03-27-05 11:36 PM

What's that front derrailuer doing on there?

arboc! 03-27-05 11:38 PM

haha... its a makeshift chain guide

J-McKech 03-27-05 11:41 PM

How many bikes do you have Mael?

Maelstrom 03-27-05 11:42 PM

Yep. It holds the chain on when I am jumping. I even went the side guides tighter so the chain had no side to side movement. Soon enough this will be a true SS and I will be posting pics as soon as I finish her off. I just need some spanking new wheels :D
