Questions about Giant Rock MTB

Today's Special: A rigid framed Giant Rock.
Shimano Altus bits & Tektro brakes.
Araya rims.
4130 butted Cro-Mo tubing.

Can someone tell me How old this bike is ?
It has a 17 inch frame: Is it a mans or woman's bike design ?
How tall a rider will this bike fit properly ?
As Giants go is it OK ?

Bikes: everywhere

Giant only used that logo from 2000-2003.

Doesn't seem to be specifically marketed towards women.

Roughly fits 5'5"- 5'10". A 5'10" person may want a longer stem, though.

I don't think they marketed the Rock in the USA, so I dunno how it ranks. Looks pretty lowend, though. Probably a sporting goods store level bike. At least it has Altus instead of Tourney rear derailleur, so that's nice.
