anyone knows these older frames?

there have this placed called the bike project here .they have tons of donated parts.i used to build on road bikes there, but checked in today and they had two interesting frames ,one was a 19" specialized expedition butted alu frame, direkt drive with the i guess original cranks from specialized.no information of year made im gessing like late 90's.they also had a trek 830 ,18"enhanced aluminum frame that looked like it was a few years old as well.iam thinking about just throwing some parts they have their on one of the frames.they said ether frame is 10 $.does anyone know these frames ? which one should i take .the trek looks beafier so that was my first pick.and i would probably take the crankset of the specialized because it was kinda nice..

My recollection is that the Trek 800 series bikes were all mild steel. Not even cro-moly and certainly not aluminum.

Got a magnet handy?
