Denver Century Ride Sept 25th 2021
I'm looking at doing this ride. The full 100 mile ride with the 6k feet of climbing up Lookout Mountain. I'm curious if anyone may have any insight they might be willing to share on it. Specifically, what might be expected in terms of temperatures, etc. I'm coming from Oklahoma and we've been in the mid to upper 90s to this point. I'm seeing that Denver is hitting the same temperatures. That must be above average? The projection as of now for the 25th in Denver is for a high of 79 and the low starting out around 51. I'm not at all acclimatized to fall temperatures yet so it might feel colder to me than it really is idk yet.
I'm trying to figure out a layering strategy that will work for the entire day. Not exactly sure what to expect at the top of the Lookout Mountain and the descent for example. Currently, I'm considering my lightest base layer top under a summer jersey with a wind jacket that I should be able to take off and put in my jersey pocket for the latter part of the day. Just doing regular bib shorts and some spring/fall socks. Not sure about which gloves - summer finger-less gloves or a more spring/fall lightly insulated full glove. I'm afraid if I go too warm with my base layer for example I'm going to die in the last half of the ride once the temperatures start climbing.
