Hell of the North Circuit Race? - SLC
Does anyone know if they are doing it this year? I wanted to do it as my first official race this year if it is going to be in April. Five times around a five mile circuit doesn't sound too bad.

The Tour of The Depot is up for registration! Check it out, it is a 3 stage race over 2 days. Sound like a lot of fun. But my team is doing Hell of The North, and it is the weekend b4 Tou of The Depot.

I'm really not a contender, too fat, but I do like to see where I stand and improve.

Have you guys done the Hell of the North before? What's the dirt/gravel part like? The flyer makes it sound like some pretty beefy tires would be in order. What teams are you folks on?
Sounds pretty interesting.

I am with Canyon Bicycles of SLC, I have talked with some of team who have done it in the past. They say it is rough, but they were running Conti. gp4000, and Attack/Force tires and didn't have any flats, but to bring extra wheels just incase! Right now I weigh 165, and I am hoping to lose a few before the race season starts.

Not really a team, more of a club, but I'll be sporting a Biker's Edge out of Kaysville jersey.

I've got it on the calendar. I'll look for your bike and say hi. Or watch for me bringing up the back.

Looks like a drive out to 3200 West might be in order.
They're also using chips for this race. Do you guys have yours? The Utah Crit Series folks mentioned they'd be using chips out there too, but there's been no word for a few weeks. Hopefully the organizers will coordinate with each other so that one chip will work for the various venues.

I was just going to rent a chip but yes, they have to use chips for the race to be official. I'll be in the Men V/Citizens. I just looked on Sportsbaseonline to sign up but can't find the event. I guess it's not up yet?

I'll be at the RMR crits, planning on starting with the 3/7 one. Let's meet up before the race starts and say hi, assuming we don't get in a training ride before then.

Sounds good. Looks like it could be awhile before it warms up, though.
I took a drive out to the gravel part of the Hell of the North route. Looks like it should be pretty reasonable but real different from what I'm used to. There's a thread over here in the racing forum asking for any input on tires. Their suggestions will probably be pretty consistent with the Contis you mentioned, raleighrx8.

Yeah, I have been on the trainer daily for about 4 weeks now. It gets old, but I have 3 CTS dvd's, so that mixes it up a bit!

Still waiting for registration to go up! I looked and it wasn't up until 2/28, so it may still be a while, even though Christian said it would be up Friday!

Registraion is up! You have to go through the Hell of the North website as Sportsbaseonline has a new website. Kind of a pain, but I registered this morning. There is only 1 other guy registered so far.

I realize the race is still five days away, but it's looking less likely for me, weather being what it is. The first of the Tuesday nighters at RMR will probably be canceled as well.
