Anomaly -- we used to live "right around the corner" from Chain Reaction on Warner St. We were friends with the folks who helped get Chain Reaction started, before we all moved out of the hood. Its a great place to live.

There is going to be the (1st annual?) "Tour de Cuisine" on April 17th on a stretch of the Mt. Vernon trail. I know it's a strange time - a Tuesday morning - but that's when chefs and waiters and all us other restaurant people tend to be free.
It costs $50 and proceeds go to "Share our Strength". You get breakfast from Panera and then lunch, mostly donated by the meat company and restaurants that are the main sponsors, I think.
Restaurant people are of course the initial focus, but anybody is invited. The ride is pretty straightforward - you set out from a restaurant on the Potomac and roll to Mt. Vernon and back - 25 miles total. If there's a good turnout maybe they can come up with some fancier course options in the coming years. But hey - breakfast and lunch and a bike ride! And a flat easy course is probably best if you are going to load up on the Panera breakfast.
Here's the website for all the info. I'm not the organizer, but I told him months ago that I was in if he actually set it up. So check it out if you're interested, and tell your friends, especially if they're in the restaurant business.

Hey, I bought a tee-shirt last year with the avatar that "dirtyphotons" uses printed on it. I like the shirt's material a lot, but it shrank a fair amount and became too small for me. So I bought another one, an XL this time. So if anybody wants to pick up a Large-now-Medium in North Arlington or Dupont you are welcome to it. I've been looking for a place to give it away.

I would just like to add tho...that most ppl consider the mid-atlantic to be DC/MD/VA/DE/PA/NJ
And that philadelphia was originally in MD state boundaries. Also, WV usually considers theirself as southeastern or midwestern. Its gets really complicated...I dont think u can cut at philadelphia because philly and baltimore/eastern md have alot in common. While Southern MD and Pennsylvania are very different from central/southern VA.
IN SHORT I think it should either be called the DC Metro or expanded to include Southeastern PA and South Jersey excluding West VA and places south of official north virginia.

yeah, a lot of us have a love hate relationship with cm. it is much smaller than chicago and new york, and many of us who go only go once in awhile. i'd say 20 if it's nasty out, anywhere between 50 and 100 if it's nice.
a lot's been said on it, if you're interested in a range of opinions i'd recommend signing up for an account on www.dcfixed.com and doing a search.
suffice to say that i feel that in dc, cm has the opposite of its intended effect. when i do go, it's for the purpose of catching up with some folks i don't see very often.
