Dc Metro Area Bike Buddy Night Safety Project For Winter
Hi All,
A few of us in the DC METRO area are trying to establish a bike buddy system for safer post-dark riding/commuting in the winter months. We're looking for a couple of energized volunteers to help us get the website/program up and running (looks like WABA is going to let us run the site through them). Will post again when we're looking for escort volunteers but right now just looking for some creative or admin-oriented folks interested in helping take the lead on this all-volunteer initiative.
Ideas? Want to join the team (we have three so far)? Would be great to get another woman on board...

- what a GREAT idea! you should also enlist a few amateur radio operators who are bike commuters... that way you'll not only have cell comms, but live, real-time audio via local repeaters throughout the area...
(a number of hams who commute by bike operate 'bike mobile' during commute periods)...

What exactly are you looking for? I ride from Del Ray into DC every day, year-round and am on the trail by about 6:00 am. I could be available to help in some way.

Hi Matt (and anyone else),
Right now, we're looking to build the Leadership Team to set up the site, come up with ideas, spread the word, etc. I'm hoping that we'll have the site up within the enxt few weeks and can then begin asking for Buddy volunteers. I emailed you off-line with more details.

I take the MVT from Huntington to DC and the return trip every day, can I help out in any way? I am usually on the trail by 7:40 in the morning and by 6:00 at night.
