PA: King of the Hill...how well do you climb? Prove it.

Each year my father hosts a hill climb time trial in Clearfield PA to raise money for the Clearfield Co Habitat for Humanities. This year's event will be held on Oct 12th so get your climbing legs ready.

More information can be found here: https://www.kingofthemountain-hfhcc.com/

Prizes are awarded by age group, bike style and gender (teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60+, mountain and road bikes, men and women).

Cash prizes for best times of each gender are $200 and event jersey to the winner (again both men and women), $100 for second and $50 for third.

So sign up and head on over to Clearfield on Sunday Oct 12th for a wonderful ride and to support a great cause.

Shouldn't that link be: https://www.kingofthemountain-htfu.com ?

Now if they only made it a time trial down the mountain, I might have a chance! It looks like a cool event.

Hey you have to get back to your car somehow right? It isn't part of the event but no one is stopping a friendly wager. FYI...it is a HELL of a decent for a top speed run...lots of long straight sections.

Oh and do this math...the guy that has won this thing 2 years running...he averaged 17.49 mph for the 5 mile climb that averages 240 feet of vertical rise per mile.

Hey, John -

This is tempting...

I'm not happy with my climbing at this point - better than some, worse than others - and it wouldn't occur to me to "race" up a climb. Looking at the list of finishing times, it looks as though there are people strolling up as well as racing.

But stretching my wings a little might be good.

I don't know this mountain; what is the avg grade?

Beth

Well I did the math and got 4.5% average. The ride is 5 miles and is 1200 vertical feet of climbing with no flat sections. Hey at this point I am going to do it and no way am I goig to challange the winner...heck I may bring the boy and the tandem just to give me an excuse.

Looking at 07 if you do 24 min you should challange for the Queen of the Mountain. So you need 13 mph avg.

Sorry, the bike is in the shop for an Ergo Power rebuild. Apparently a spring that is hard to lose, and not included in the rebuild kit, has mysteriously disappeared. Alien abduction? Any way, I am taking it as a sign from God that I should have two road bikes, so I always have a spare. It has been a week since I took it in to the shop, and I am going through withdrawal! Good luck with the race. It sounds fun, in a masochistic kind of way!
