Metro Boston: Good ride today?
#7801
Friday, took the LHT and rode East.
All quiet at Bell Rock cemetery.
Meanwhile, back in East Arlington, we've had a Ruby Slippers sighting.

My sweetie and I took the tandem out to the Nashua River Rail Trail (NRRT) today. It was marvelous, not quite empty, and pretty colorful.

Today I had to mirror my weekday regimen. I awoken to an alarm clock earlier than most people would consider normal. I rode 30 familiar miles on my cross bike. Not long after I handed over the wheels from the R3 to a new owner in exchange for currency that's going towards the Seven dream bike, which I put 50% down earlier this week.

Not a good ride today, my chain broke a few miles out. Luckily, someone was home to rescue me. I'll be packing a master link and pliers from now on....

Much like yesterday if I was going to ride it had to be early or I wouldn't have the opportunity. I was caught off guard by rain drops. I was dressed comfortably for mid-upper 40's but without a fender and any rain gear. Thankfully it was light rain and not persistant or heavy rain. It motivated me to pedal harder so I could go faster to get home before getting completely soaked and utterly miserable. I only needed 23 miles to hit my benchmark for the week. Instead I rode 18.

This morning was a water bottle freezing kinda morning. I was snuggled up in my winter gear with my new Bontrager OMW boots, full face balaclava and winter MTB goggles. And assuredly my bottle tip froze over. I only rode 22 miles and was on my cross bike.

yep, just the nipple froze over, ice was sloshing around inside the bottle. My fingers were a little unhappy towards the end.

So early voted so I could avoid any possible accessibility issues next month.

Took the Ram for a sunset ride on the Minuteman. The cloud formations were arresting, I kept stopping to gawk at them.
Quiet ride. Probably more wrenching than riding tomorrow, if the weather forecast bears out.

The weather didn't get rowdy quite as early as predicted, so I rolled out on the Rawland Nordavinden to take the air on a cool and breezy afternoon, with the clouds threatening rain but declining to do more than spit at me a little until the ride was over and the bike was back in the garage: for this, I am grateful.
The autumn leaves are starting to show us something here and there.
The phragmites waving in the breeze in the wetland at the headwaters of Mill Brook reminded me of burghers assembled in a Rembrandt (but then, the pa*****o game of associative networks between my ears does things like that).
The big catalpa regrets the season, or perhaps the latitude.
The tree spirit has taken up mandolin picking.

Sometimes curse and sometimes blessing, BIDMC as well as so much of Longwood Medical is close to Fenway Park.
So yesterday I “walked” from Harvard Square to BIDMC in the morning, then was asked if could do an afternoon ad hoc appointment with another specialist.
So I got to “walk” to Fenway Park during my break. There was something going on, lots of TV trucks and some of the roads were closed to traffic.
More bikeforums related. At a teaching hospital there is a lot of conversation between the folks on the other side of the fourth wall. (I’m here and can hear you?)
“Nice legs.” “Athletic legs.” “Textbook legs.” “Young legs.” “Healthy legs.”
Anyhow....
Rolling rolling rolling....

The North Wind blew the last of the clouds off to Plymouth County in time to let me roll out on the Trucker DeLuxe for a little ride up to Lexington before dinner, out with the sunset and back at dusk, crystalline air and an empty, glowing sky, temperatures falling from the low 50s to the low 40s.
Wrecks in Mal's yard had me thinking about the stock market.
Chased my headlights home, where I finally caught them.

After work had kept me off the bike the past 2 mornings I gladly braved the 30* cold this morning. I felt rather proud of myself for seeming to almost master the cold. I added another thin layer to my 45Nrth Sturmfist gloves which in concert with their wool liners kept my fingers from being completely numb. The rest of me was as content as could be. The new boots are keeping my toes warm enough that the 30's are getting more manageable than miserable. 25 miles on my cross bike.
