Great day for a ride. Road a total of 70 miles today (10 into work and 60 on the way home). Quads started locking as I attacked the last big climb. I was only a few miles from home so decided to spin in a lower gear and call it a cooldown.

Sure was nice out there today. Very much enjoyed every bit of the ride today (30 miles) even with the wet roads. Just got done cleaning the bike and am looking forward to the weekend coming soon.

With winds averaging 35-40mph, Friday was a bear. Felt like Lance Armstrong in one direction and Elmer Fudd in all others. At one point, the wind almost drove me to a stand still and then nearly blew me onto a sidewalk (very dicey in spots). After the first 12 miles, I grabbed a tailwind on a flat section (the only one on my route apparently) and found myself nearly soft peddling at 35mph (no joke). At least it was 68F.

Today I definitely had a weather hangover. I was under dressed with a simple wind vest and fingerless gloves as I rolled out in 40F temps with a COLD breeze pushing the temps even lower. Had to bum some wool gloves off a friend I met up with halfway through. Rain started and stopped a few time but never got beyond a few drops (thank heavens). Logged 50 miles by the end of the day.

Rode out of Westminster down to Fitchburg to hit a couple of hills then rte. 12 home to Winchendon. I always like climbing rte. 12 out of Fitchburg, I spent 10 years working in downtown Fitchburg (late 90's)and riding that route home three times a week. I ended up with 30 miles, with about 13 miles being some sort of climbing.

Made it about 45mi today, Cambridge to Belmont, then out west of Concord, through Belmont, and back to town via the MinuteMan. Nice ride, though I didn't appreciate the cold headwind.

Yeow I'm envious of you all and, well, tubby! I'm off to such a slow start I can count the number of rides with 1/3 of the spokes on my rear wheel. I can count the excess pounds with the rest of the wheel.

It is early yet but I'm contemplating a gig in Hudson, NH and how to work in biking. I could drive up and bike back; bike up and drive back. First take on a route would take me through Wellesley, Weston, Concord, Acton, Chelmsford, Lowell, Pelham and north to Hudson. I'm not sure I've the gumption to brave the morning and evening dusk/dark commuter traffic but I'd sure lose the tub.

I can count the number of rides on one hand and the number of miles on the other. However some of those rides have been initial tentative meanderings on a tandem. I'm learning to ride a bike all over again.

I'm contemplating something equally ridiculous. Drive to 128 Station, train to Attleboro, bike to Lincoln, RI. Do the reverse in the evening. I'd bike the whole thing but it wouldn't leave any time for working.

60 miles today... and a bit of a sufferfest with the still-cold weather and the strong winds. Went out from Cambridge to Concord, then did a figure-8 with the top at Carlise and the bottom at Sudbury. Working my way into shape for the Harpoon Brewery Ride in June...

Rode around Squam Lake twice on two days yesterday and the day before. Everything is still frozen here although the roads are mostly clear, just a couple ice patches. The hills are a more serious here than in Mass. and I swear giant frost heaves have made them steeper. Getting in shape for b2b too, not up to 60 yet though...... Debating a third time around the lake today before the snow comes and I head back to Mass.

Got another long ride in before work today... 81 miles, west from Cambridge through Belmont to Sudbury under 495 to Bolton and Harvard (Hills! i hate Hills!)... then back on a slightly more Northerly route through west concord and around Hanscom, back to Belmont and Cambridge.

I started out at 730, and it stayed cold for longer than I expected... plus a roughly 15-20mph head wind made my way out very long, slow and cold. All of this made my 3 mile commute to work this afternoon depressingly difficult!

81 miles before work?! I'd have to start waaaaay too early to fit that in (I am at my desk at 7am)! Rode the sweet ride in today with the hopes of sneaking in 50 on the way home.

Head-wind yesterday was indeed stiff to say the least.

Finally able to get out and ride after work today (35 miles). Been crazy busy the last few weeks, and when I did have time it was raining out. Let's hope the weather cycle starts to shift to a warmer pattern.

Rode out to Athol / Orange to watch the River Rat Race. Got in 52 miles with plenty of climbing, what a great day out. Hope others were able to get out on such a great day.

How nice is springtime bicycling!
Friday night after getting home from work I went out for a 25 mile evening ride and finished about 8:30PM. The evening air was fantastic.

Yesterday, I rode a leisurely 29 mile social ride with my neighbor, stopped for a morning coffee 2/3 the way through and puttered home ready for a nap in the mid day sun. I didn’t nap but easily could have.

The tribe was out and about and the weather beckoned so what was a normal, Metrowest bike forum rider to do? I reflected the the Friday evening ride and rode another 37; finished in the dark with a Superflash blinky and IXON IQ headlight. I loaned my Dinotte taillight to my commuting son and there was very little traffic so alls-well.

On the other side of the spectrum, I am mindful of the sad death of Dr. Sabin in Millis and 2 or 3 other recent bicycle related crashes. Please let's be careful and cautious.

I finally got my first real ride in today too. Only 16 1/4 miles this morning but I was time-limited, having promised my sweetie that we'd also do a few other activities. From Waltham out past Lexington Center and back. Lots of riders milling around in front of Ride Studio, most of them eating. Not a bad thing to do today. Some of the roads took a beating this winter, didn't they?

Funny though, my chainrings seem to have gotten bigger during the winter. Maybe the fact that we played a show last night and I didn't get to bed until 1:30AM had something to do with it. Fatigue will make chainrings get big in a hurry.

The old bike did great except for one irritating problem. I'm running new wheels and the front rim is considerably narrower than the old one. So the brake pads don't sit squarely on the rim. So they squealed with the slightest pressure. It was only slightly embarrassing so I didn't use the front brakes much.

It was great to get out and ride!

Yes. And still waiting for a bit of FLA weather up here in Boston (should only be 3 months away...).

No riding this weekend for me, I worked the whole time. However, my powertap should be here in a day or two, which means I can finally define with great precision the true extent of my mediocrity.
