I was stuck by her ball of foot over pedal axle in those shoes.

Are you thinking about coming up for the grand opening tour of the MBT on June 10th? Be aware that the part of this trail that has taken so long to complete is very short and the rest of the trail is on the roads, so I'm not sure if it's worth it to come that distance only to ride the MBT, but let's know if and when you're coming. Perhaps CCrider can lead his tour of the boundary markers when you're in town.

Instead of just the MBT, how about a loop? CCT, Western Ave, Silver Spring, then MBT. Would pick up several boundary stones.
I don't have any definite rides scheduled past May 8 (EU Embassy tour), so June is currently free.

That photo of the guy riding past the military vehicles at 13th and NY is kinda creepy, given what happened last night at 12th and NY. Just terrible tragedy.

June's out, but July might work. My work has these annual deadlines that are announced six weeks in advance, and I just don't know when the deadlines will be this year. The EU Embassy tour looks like fun. I've only ever been to the French Embassy a bunch of times, but never any others.

July might work for a Stones/MBT tour. Still too far out to schedule.
EU open house day is May 8. Last year I did a solo ride to all the embassies, stopping at about half of them (the ones without long lines.) Plan to do the same this year (now that I know which ones throw the best parties.)

Didn't know she was a messenger, kinda cute and clean for that, guess that's the part-time.

That was first picture I took Monday, and I knew it was the best I would get that day. I agree it's a bit eerie, but not entirely coincidental. These were among the trucks used to block the route.

Rest in peace, Constance Holden. A talented artist, http://www.holdenportraits.com/index.html , long time career science writer, 63 years young bike commuter, apparently struck within a block of the start of her evening commute.

Graffiti abatement?? WTH? That's what makes it so vibrant. Who wants to ride next to a grey wall? Sheesh.

Love the Bike Friday tandem couple. I aspire to that.

Painting over graffiti only cleans the canvas for new works.

The graffiti artists never fall behind schedule. The hardest workers on the trail. :D

MBT from NY Ave. to R St. is paved.

i check a lot for updates to this thread. thanks for the update man.

Yeah, thanks man. Keeping it rolling, CC! Excellent set of photos.

I got my internets back :). My last post was composed on a smart phone. I couldn't see the text which is why it needs editing.

I didn't shoot as much when my internet was off. I guess the reason I take pictures is to post them here. :p

I've shot Cargo Mike a bunch of times, but today I finally got him in focus. He saw me and was willing to play to the camera as he waited at 17th for a gap in the 'K Street traffic' . I think he let go of the handlebar right after I clicked the shutter release. So I missed the shot. I also missed a guy on a DH bike wearing full face helmet and a bag of golf clubs. Oh well, next time...

I forgot to check my email and missed the announcement that the MBT officially opened on May 1st.

A 27 year veteran of DC bike commuting riding the MBT towards his home in Silver Spring on a single speed folder. His eight speed folder was stolen last week. He replaced it with one he thought would be less desirable to thieves.

Absolutely, I thought you'd never ask. :)

Warning! Possibility of Traffic Congestion in DC!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...050302692.html

Darn, they didn't use a picture of me. The picture of Miles is better on so many levels. His Nats cap and orange bag, better light, color, more traffic, unstaged... Remember, you saw him here first. ;)

Actually if this infrastructure gets more people on bikes and out of cars,. buses and taxis, if should ease congestion.

Maybe -- but the residential composition of DC is kept lower than other large cities because of building height restrictions, and lots of people still live out in the 'burbs. There's the park-and-ride option at the outlying Metro stops, but those parking lots are filled, and the reserved spots have waiting lists, so the Metro commuter ridership isn't going to increase (never mind that it's at capacity during rush hour anyway).

I still don't think that Penn Ave will experience higher congestion because of these lanes. It's just not that bad anyway.

Thanks! :)

Actually a bike path has opened near my house in Richmond, headed downtown. It's short, part of a much longer future network, but it's still so nice for me to get downtown. Richmond needs leadership in order to become a really great bicycling city (it's got all the ingredients), but right now that leadership is lacking. Maybe next time, eh?
