Route 126 past Walden Pond in Concord/Lincoln is paved... from the Lincoln line almost to Baker Bridge Road. If you have been avoiding that stretch, as I have, they only have the topcoat to put on and it will be smooth sailing.
Also, if you are headed through Carlisle, these roads have been improved this summer:
River Road (aka Monument Street on Concord end)
West Street
Rutland Street
Enjoy!

Bill,
I cut on to 126 from Lincoln just south of Walden and only have the rotten turns on fairly wide road. Heading north, there was a 10" wide smooth section just right of the rotten, tire eating pot holes. Otherwise I go and grab the hole lane and swing to the left all the way to the cross walks.
I haven't been there in a month so maybe tomorrow.

Yes. Route from Baker Bridge down to Wayland still poor, but I see signs of improvement plans are in the works. If you can work it into your route, traveling south on 126 is much better than going north.
I'm still of the philosophy that if the great citizens on Lincoln wish me to ride near the side of the road, they would be willing to put some smooth pavement there. Otherwise I'm grabbing the lane.

FINALLY! Woo Hooo is right!
Weston Observatory, Lincoln and all the way to Carlisle back via Water Row, Rice Rd are swell. It is actually easier to point out Walden Pond North and Sudbury Rd between Rt 2 and the Sudbury River in Concord and Glezen Lane in Wayland
