NYC Members List [Most Current Version]

Hey everyone! I posted in the other thread, but the OP seems to have disappeared and no longer maintains the database. Also, it doesn't seem like an active thread, but I think that if someone maintains the database by editing the first post, as I am willing to do, this could be a great resource for us here in the Big Apple, and perhaps close surrounding areas?

Anyway, I was thinking we start with Forum name, email address (if you want to give it) and first name. So post your info here and I will keep up with it. We can use this thread, email, and the PM system to coordinate group rides if you guys want.

Added you, thanks!

Folks, please sign this if you live in the area and want to meet up with other cyclists here. I would have preferred to use that other thread, but the OP has long since abandoned it and it seems to have died because of it!

You're added, Interceptor. Cool video. Is that Central Park? I can't tell because of the location of the camera.

Please PM me. I live in Queens Village, NY. I try to commute daily, and I'd luv to meet up with a rider or 2 at Alley Pond Park in Queens. Or, I'd definitely be willing to hit up the city and see what's happening on my MiniVelo.

Oh, almost forgot. My name is Doug.

I've lived on west 73rd street for the past 4 years - race Cat 4 but suck at it. Sadly I'm moving to Hoboken on Saturday and don't know of any good rides in the area unless I head up to 9W via river road. Maybe 1nterceptor can help.

I live 2 towns north of Hoboken, yeah I don't think there's any decent place to ride in Hudson county.
I usually ride Hudson Terrace or River Road to 9W; over the GW to the West side path and back if I
feel like doing a flat ride.

That's a beautiful bike, man. I just picked up my first true "road racing" bike, definitely high end by my standards. It's a Scott Foil 30, full carbon:

That's a nice Foil 30, I like the colors too.
I think Scott makes nice bikes; I just couldn't
handle the geometry on mine. That's why I got
the endurance/relaxed geometry BMC. But I
kept the Syncros/Scott wheels. Did you get your
bike from Piermontbikes?

Yep! I got in on the half price deal, which now that I am riding it for 2 months, I really feel like I got a steal and a half on this one! They really service their bikes incredibly well and Glen is absolutely awesome. In some ways I wish I had gone with a more relaxed geometry, because I do a lot of long rides (yesterday I did about 82 miles with rests and ferry rides where there was no path into Staten Island over the Verazzano) so while I love the feeling agility and quickness with this bike, I may have been slightly better off with an endurance ride. But still, waaaay too happy to lament.

What is your bike? Is that the Shmano 105 version? I was Googling it because it looks really nice. Maybe next summer I will get another bike and have one for racing around on (lol not that I race) one for the really longer rides, and my old hybrid (1996 Trek 750) to ride on occasions and to lend to friends when they ride with me.

Yes, it's the 105 version. I didn't like the Ultegra color.
But I ended up switching most of the components to
Ultegra(6700 10 speed) anyway. This is the 2nd bike
I bought new from Piermontbikes.

Not sure what type of group rides you're looking for; race training A rides or just a fun outing.
Never been on a race training ride but have gone on a few mellow rides with most NYC clubs.

New York Cycle Club; $30/year membership. Club with the most rides listed per week.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mQz...IoDLA&index=12

Five Boro Bike Club; free or $25/ year membership. Most rides have interesting destinations;
museums, waterfalls/dams, etc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFj8...IoDLA&index=26

Social Cycling NYC; free. Mellow rides(lots of fixie/single speed riders) usually ending up in a bar.

There is meetup.com. I belong to a couple of groups and on occasion put together rides with riders of similar strengths. Also, Strictly Bikes in Fort Lee has group rides.

I did the river road and then back 9W, 32 miles round trip on Sunday. Will probably do it again this Sunday since it's supposed to be warm. Maybe extend the ride and go to Piermont too, I figure that will be almost 50 miles round trip. I was pretty slow getting up the last hill to the ranger station, I forgot how long it is.
