This in addition to the closure of Missing Link a year or two ago due to their lease expiring and the landlord looking to jack up the rent to unsustainable (for Missing Link) levels.
We'd all better stock up on our buggy whips now, as they may not be available e're long.

Bikes on Solano in Berkeley is also approaching dire straits. Landlord is raising rent and their future is in limbo. I was in there yesterday and the owner said, “ maybe two months,” with plans for an inventory sale and curtailed service orders.

For any shop owners or fans of local shops, this might be useful info:
Leases for commercial real estate often have a clause stating that if the tenant fails to notify the landlord of the intention to renew the lease at least, e.g., 90 days before the end of the lease, the landlord can terminate the lease.
That happened to the first shop I worked for.
